Description

Feb. 24, 1942. B. BARBER WALLPAPER STEAMING DEVICE Filed Nov. 29, 1940 Patented Feb. 24, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WALLPAPER STEAMIN G DEVICE I Bert Barber, Decatur, Ill. Application November 29, 1940, Serial No. 367,&54
1 Claim.
The invention relates to wall paper steaming device, and has for its object to provide a sup- 'porting stand for a steaming element whereby the steaming element may be held in engagement with a ceiling or a side wall, and at various positions on the side wall without moving the stand thereby allowing the ,entire side wall to be steamed for removing paper from the same.
A further object is to provide a wall paper steamer stand comprising an upright formed from telescopic members and provided with means whereby a steamer may be supported, yieldably, on its upper end against the ceiling.
A further object is to provide one of the telescopic sections of the upright with an outwardly extending arm, in which arm is adjustably mounted a steamer supporting arm terminating in yieldable means for holding a steamer against a side wall and in any desired position on the side wall.
A further object is to support the steaming pan by means oi an arm extending into an aperture thereof, and to provide an expansion spring around said arm and engaging the pan for forcing the same into close engagement with a ceiling or wall.
With the above and other objects in View the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figura 1 is a side elevation of steamer stand.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional View through a portion of the stand showing the adjusting means. e p
Referrng to the drawing, the numeral l designates the base of the stand which is sufficiently large and of suificient weight'to maintain the stand as a whole in an upright position, as shown in Figure 1. Extending upwardly from the base l is a lower telescopic section 2, in which is slidably mounted an intermediate telescopic section 3. The telescopic section is held in various raised or lowered positions by means of a set screw 4. Telescopically disposed within the intermediate section 3 is the upper section 5, held in various adjusted positions by means of a set screw 6. By this telescopic arrangement of parts a wide range of operation of the, device is obtained for low or high ceilings. The upper end of the upper section 5 is provided with a shoulder 1, and the extreme upper end of the section 5 is received in an aperture 8 of a steam-pan 9, adapted to be held closely against the ceiling or side wall. To accomplish a close engagement of the pan an expansion spring o is provided around the section 5 and interposed between the shoulder 'I and the pan, hence it will be seen that the expansive action of the spring will positively hold the pan against the ceiling for the steaming operation.
Extending outwardly from one side of the intermediate section 3 is a shaft ll on which is rotatably mounted a sleeve 12, and said sleeve is held in rotative adjustment by means of a set screw [3. 'The outer end of the sleeve |2 terminates in a transverse sleeve !4 in which is slidably mounted a steamer supporting arm !5, and the arm !5 is held against axial movement by means of a set screw Hi. By manipulating the set screws l3 and !6, rotating the sleeve |2 and adjustingthe steamer supporting arm l5, it will be seen that the pan 9 may be adjusted and held in any position desired on the side wall I'I of a room for a steaming operation. One end of the supporting arm !5 terminates in a right angularly disposed portion I 8 which is received in the aperture 8 of the pan and surrounding said arm l8 and interposed between a shoulder 19 and the pan is an expansion spring 20 which holds the pan 9 in close engagement with th side wall for the steaming operation. The steaming pan 9 may be of any construction, that is a self container steamer, or. one wherein the steam is obtained from some other source of supply.
From the above it will be seen that a wall paper steaming device is .provided which is simple in construction and one wherein a ceiling steaming pan or a side wall steaming pan may be supported in a manner whereby the entire surfaces of the ceiling or wall may be steamed for a wall paper i of towards a ceiling, an outwardly extending arm carried by one of the telescopic sections of the upright, a rotatable sleeve on said outwardly extending member, means for holding said sleeve in various rotated positions, a transverse sleeve carried by the outer end of the rotative sleeve, a steamer supporting arm axially adjustable in the transverse sleeve and in a plane parallel to the telescopic upright, a horizontal arm carried by one end of the steamer supporting arm and adapted to engage a steamer and hold the same against a wall and an expansion spring interposed between said last named steamer and a shoulder carried by the steamer supporting arm.
