Abstract

680,148. Hair dryers. EUGENE, Ltd. Feb. 26, 1951 [March 22, 1950], No. 7203/50. Class 81 (ii). A hair dryer comprises a heater and motor fan unit mounted within a cabinet 10 adapted to stand beside a customer, a helmet being supported and supplied with hot air by a conduit 25 carried by the top 14 of the cabinet 10. The cabinet 10 contains a motor 15 and a fan 16, a sinuous air conduit 19, 20, 22 and a well 34 for receiving the helmet and its supporting conduit 25 when not in use. Portions 19, 20 of the sinuous conduit are perforated and surrounded by glass wool packing 21 for sound deadening purposes and a vertical portion 22 contains a bonnet 23 supporting coiled heating elements 24. A tube 27 telescopically surrounds the vertical portion 22 of the sinuous conduit and projects beyond the top 14 of the cabinet 10 to form a socket for the conduit 25 which supports the helmet. A link 30 attached eccentrically at the top to a shaft 31 and a handle 32 and provided at the lower end with a wedging roller 28 serves to lock the tube 27 in any desired position relative to the conduit portion 22 which it surrounds in order to provide adjustment of the height of the helmet. The position of the helmet relative to its supporting conduit 25 may also be adjusted. Control switches are provided on the top 14 of the cabinet 10 for the use of the operator and the customer. A retractable shelf 36, which when not in use covers the well 34, and a reading lamp 38 are provided. Air for drying enters the cabinet 10 through spaces 42 between the sides of the cabinet 10 and the flanged edge 43 of the top 14 of the cabinet 10. Specification 644,763 is referred to.
