Other objects of the invention are to provide a plasterers float of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eiicient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a plasterers oat constructed in accordance with the present invention, an end portion of the device being broken away in section.

Figure 2 is a top plan view.

Figure 3 is a top plan view of an end portion of the sponge rubber pad, one of the securing bolts being shown in section.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a substantially D-shaped handle I of wood or other suitable material. Projecting outwardly from the end portions 2 of the handle I are integral, apertured ears 3 the purpose of which will be presently set forth.

Mounted on the end portions 2 of the handle I is a base plate 4 of suit-able metal. The base plate 4 is firmly secured to the handle I by screws 5. 'I'he end portions of the base plate 4 are provided with openings which are aligned with the apertures in the ears 3. The reference numeral 6 designates a pad of sponge rubber which is adapted to be securely clamped beneath the plate 4. Toward this end, the upper portion of the pad 6 is slit at 'I and undercut, as at 8, in a manner to provide a plurality of integral, horizontal, flexible flaps 9 extending inwardly from the marginal portions of said pad.

Mounted on the pad 6 beneath the naps 9 is a trowel plate l0 of suitable metal. Mounted in the end portions of the plate IIJ are clamping bolts II which pass upwardly through the end flaps 9, the base plate 4 and the ears 3, said bolts having threaded on their upper end portions securing nuts-|2.

It will thus be seen that the pad 6 is rmly clamped between the plates 4 and I0 on the handle I. AIt will also be observed that the entire marginal portions of the pad Ii are rmly secured. To replace the pad when necessary it is only necessary to remove the nuts I2 to permit disconnection of the bolts I I from the ears 3. The end iiaps 9 are then disengaged from the bolts II to permit removal of the plate I0 from beneath the flexible flaps.

It is believed that the many advantages of a plasterers float constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. A plasterers float comprising a handle, a plate mounted on said handle, a resilient pad of substantial, uniform thickness throughout having slits and undercuts in its upper portion defining integral, flexible flaps extending inwardly from the marginal portions of the pad, a plate mounted on the pad and engaged beneath the flaps, and means clamping the plates together for securing the flaps therebetween.

2. A plasterers float comprising a substantially D-shaped handle, a plate mounted on the ends of said handle, apertured ears on the end portions of the handle, a resilient pad of substantial, uniform thickness throughout having slits and undercuts in its upper portion defining integral, flexible, horizontal ilapsY extending inwardly from the marginal portions of said pad, a plate mounted on the pad and engaged beneath the flaps, and bolts securing the second named plate to the apertured ears on the handle and clamping the flaps between the rst and second named plates.

3. A plasterers float comprising a handle, a sponge rubber pad of substantial, uniform thickness throughout having slits and undercuts in its upper portion extending to points in spaced relation to its edges and defining integral aps eX- tending inwardly from the marginal portions of the pad, and means engaged beneath the flaps for clamping said flaps and the handle together.
