Patented Mar. 9, 18 80.
NIPEIER5. FNOTO-LITHOBRAPHfli, WASHXNGTONID C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
oLA K HQOPER, 0F GARO, MICHIGAN.
DO O R-CHEC K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,380, dated March 9, 1880. Application filed October 27, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARK HOOPER, of the village of Oaro, in the county of Tuscola and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Door-Checks and 1 do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
My invention has relation to that class of door-checks which are composed of a vertically-adjustable rod or bar provided with an elastiofriction-shoe at its lower end and with means for effecting its adjustment at its upper end; and it consists in an improved construction and combination of parts, having for its object to combine simplicity with efficiency and convenience in operation, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, F denotes a portion of the door to which the check is applied. E E are parallel casing-plates, secured together and upon door F by screws 0 c e. d is a short shaft,
which is journaled in plates E E and provided with a knob D, and eccentric flanged disk A, the flange a of which works in a slot, f, in the or shoe, 0, of india-rubber or other suitable material.
The face of the flanged eccentric diskA has two projecting pins, 0, which act as stops in turning the disk, by its knob or handle D, in respect to the slot f in rod B, thus limiting the stroke of the said rod and preventing it from getting out of gear.
The check is brought into or out of operation by simply turning its knob D, when disk A will raise or lower rod B with its frictionshoe G, which bears against the floor, so as to retain the door partially or entirely open, as the case may be.
. I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination, with the door F, provided with the keepers b b, of the casing-plates E E, shaft d, having knob D, and eccentric disk A, provided with the flange a and stop-pins c c, and rod B, slotted in its upper end at f and provided at its lower end with the frictionshoe 0, substantia1ly as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I do affix' my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' CLARK HOOPER. Witnesses: l
SARAH McGoRNIcK, FRED. S. WHEAT.
