Application May 13, 1941, Serial No. 393,150
` (cl. z ss) Y portion 8, front portions 9, and sleeves I0. If
Claims.
The present invention relates to linings and more particularly to sleeved linings which may be removably secured within an outer garment so as to permit the use of such garment under varying climaticl conditions.
It is the main object of the present invention to provide a garment of the general character indicated in which the removable lining is so constructed that elasticity is provided across the back, chest, shoulders, thus giving to the wearer more freedom of movement than has heretofore been possible in garments of this general nature.
It is another objectof this invention to providey a garment lining wherein the sleeves are separated from the main body portion of the lining by the interposition of stretchable material and thereby enabling the attainment of the above mentionedy primary object with greater facility than has heretofore been possible.
In th'e accompanying specification there shall be described and in the annexed drawing shown an illustrative embodiment of the detachable sleeved lining of the present invention. It is, however, to be clearly understood that the present invention is not limited to `the exact details of construction herein shown and described for purposes of illustration only, inasmuch as changes in the details may be made therein without the exercise of invention and within the scope of the claims hereto appended.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a, front elevational view of a portion of a detachable sleeved lining made in accordance with thel principles of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the same Partly broken away to show the inner construction, and
Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken along line 3*-3 of Figure l; and
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of a conventional outer garment provided with a detachcloth or other non-stretchable material.
desired, the sleeves I0 may be made of stretchf able material, such as Lastex etc. instead of The back portion `8, at the upper partl thereof, in other words, between the shoulder blades, is provided with vertically disposed pleats II which enable lateral expansion in the back portion 8.
- Along a line'of stitching I2, the back portion 8` is secured to the back portion I3 of a vest-like member I4 made of stretchable material, the vest-like memberV also including front portions I5. The back portion I3 and the front portions able sleeved lining made in accordance with the present invention, the outer garment being turned back to more clearly-show the lining.
Referring now more in detail to the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention, and with particular reference to the drawing illustrating the same, numeral 5 generally designates an outer garment, such as an overcoat, which is provided wiUh a sleeved lining 6, which may be detachably secured therein by means of conventional hookless fasteners The detachable lining 6, which is made of nonstretchable material, comprises generally a back -provided with conventional armholes which'are attached, by rows of stitching 20, the
I5 of the vest-like member I4, may be made of one piece or, if desired, may be made of separate pieces stitched along lines I6. Also, if desired, the stretchable material of the back portion I3 may be eliminated intermediate the rows of stitching I2.
The upper corners of the lining 6 are cut away so as to provide oversized armholes l1 and extending through these oversized armholes I'I, so as to be exposed ,to view, are marginal areas I8, preferably integral with the back and front portions of the vest-like member I4, these areas extending completely about the armhole regions of the lining 6. 'Ihe marginal areas I8 are I9 to sleeves I0.
The lining 6 is itself provided with a.lining which includes a back portion 2I provided with a fold 22, which enables lateral expansion ofv the back portion of the lining, this lining being secured to the sleeves I0 and the back portion I3 of the vest-like member I4 by the rows of stitchi'ng 20. 'I'he front portions 23 of this innermost lining are likewise secured to the sleeves Il! and also to the front portions I5 of the vest-like member I4 through the rows of stitching 2li, and the outer edges of the front portions 23 of this lining are secured by rows of stitching 24 to the outer edges of the front portions I5 of the vest-like member I 4 and to the outer edges of the front portions 9 of the lining 6. The same rows 24 of stitching also secure in placeA a, Stringer 25 which carries the hookless fastener elements 1. The garment is completed by providing the front portions 23 of the lining 6, intermediate the inner and outer edges thereof with folds 26 directed i front portions I 5 of the vest-like member I4 along the rowsoi stitching y21.
This completes the description of the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention. It will be noted that, in its broad aspect, the invention consists of a coat-like garment lining in which there is secured a vest-like member, which vest-like member is provided with marginal areas extending through oversized armholes provided in the lining; themarginal areas being provided with conventional armholes, to which are secured the sleeves of the lining. The garment lining is made of non-stretchable material, but the vest-like member secured therein is made of stretchable material. By this construction, there is provided a garment lining having elastic areas which permit complete freedom of the chest, shoulders, and the back of the wearer.
Other objects and advantages oi the detachable sleeved lining of the present invention will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the present invention relates.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A garment comprising a coat-like member of non-stretchable material provided with oversized armholes, a vest-like member of stretchable material secured within said coat-like member and having portions thereof extending through and beyond said oversized armholes, said extending portions of said vest-like member being provided with conventional armholes, and sleeves secured to said ex-tending portions of said vest-like member at the armholes thereof.
2. A garment comprising a coat-like member of non-stretchable material provided with oversized armholes, means associated with said coatlike member to permit lateral expansion thereof, a vest-like member of stretchable material secured within said coat-like member and having portions thereof extending through and beyond said oversized armholes, said extending portions of said vest-like member being provided with conventional armholes, and sleeves secured to said extending portions of said vest-like member at the armholes thereof.
3. A garment comprising a coat-like member of non-stretchable material provided with oversized armholes, said non-stretchable material being provided with a pleated portion to permit lateral expansion thereof. a vest-like member of stretchable material secured Within said coatlike member and having portions thereof extending through and beyond said oversized armholes, said extending' portions of said vest-like member being provided with conventional armholes, and sleeves secured to said extending portions of said vest-like member at the armholes thereof.
4. A garment comprising a coat-like member of non-stretchable material provided with oversized armholes, a vest-like member of stretchable material secured within said coat-like member and having portions thereof extending through said oversized armholes to present exposed marginal areas throughout the entire armhole region of the garment, said exposed marginal areas of said vest-like member being provided with conventional armholes, and sleeves secured to said exposed marginal areas of said vest-like member at the armholes thereof.
5. A garment comprising a coat-like member of non-stretchable material, the portion immediately adjacent to and surrounding the armholes thereof being cut away to form oversized armholes; sleeves; and a strip of stretchable material coextensive with and attached to the oversized armholes of said coat-like member and provided with conventional armholes to which are attached said sleeves. l
