Description

"14, 1939 Patented Aug. 5, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE APPARATUS FOR THE JUI This invention relates to an apparatus for the extraction of juices from suitably prepared materials, and more particularly for the extraction of hormone and vitamine containing juices from glands, plants, and the like.
Devices of this kind are already known, but they do not satisfy the requirements for the above mentioned purposes.
The apparatus according to the invention is particularly adapted for use in the application of the fresh-hormone-therapy (method of Paul Vasarhelyi) In the process of preparation of fresh hormones and vitamines the extraction of the juices constitutes only a part of the necessary operations.
The material containing vitamines and hormones is a moist, extremely slippery and viscous mass which is difiicult to submit to extraction pressure. The substances which are still alive in this mass are sensitive to temperature and to chemical action.
The object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus for the above mentioned use by means of which the extraction of juices may be carried out rapidly, thoroughly and in sterile manner, and so that the extracted juices do not contain any ballast substances and are not subjected to any variations of temperature.
The invention consists in a juice extractor comprising a clamping sleeve for holding the ends of a cloth forming a bag adapted to contain the material to be squeezed, and a nozzle ring into which the bag is pulled for the purpose of squeezing the contents of the bag which retains the ballast substances. The apparatus is preferably made of non-metallic material, such as wood, artificial resin materials, and the like.
The accompanying drawing represents by way of example a preferred form of an apparatus according to the invention. In the drawing Fig. l is a vertical section of a juice extractor;

The prepared material from which the juice is to be extracted is placed on a cloth, for example on a sterilised filter cloth and this latter is folded to form a bag I. The folded ends of the cloth are inserted into a clamping sleeve 2 which,

(01.100-44) as shown in Fig. 3, comprises two complementary parts 2a and 2b, forming a frustum of a cone when joined together. The lower portion of the bore 3 of the sleeve is provided with grooves or corrugations 4 for gripping the cloth.
The clamping sleeve 2 together with the filled bag I is introduced from above into the conical bore of a sleeve 5 the external wall of which is threaded and screwed into a threaded nut member l. The sleeve 5 is provided at its top with a handle 6, permitting one to unscrew the sleeve from the nut. The nut 1 is carried by a supporting plate 8 in which a nozzle ring 9 is inserted. The plate 8 is mounted on a frame l2 by means of journals ll so that it can be opened by a tilting movement.
The nozzle ring is conveniently formed of two complementary parts 9a and 911 (Fig. 4) forming a truncated cone when joined together. The outer conical face of the ring 9 fits into the conical opening ll] of the plate 8. When the plate 8 is tilted as shown in Fig. 2, the two parts of the nozzle ring can be inserted from below about the bag into the opening Hi. Afterwards the plate 8 is returned to horizontal position and then the apparatus is ready for operation.
The conical surfaces of the clamping sleeve 2 and of the opening It) for the nozzle ring Bare oppositely inclined, and when the sleeve 5 is screwed upwardly, the clamping sleeve 2 and the nozzle ring 9 are pressed on their seating surfaces by the pull efiected by the sleeve 5, whereby at the same time the clamping pressure of the sleeve 2 on the cloth of the bag is automatically obtained. I
When the sleeve 5 is screwed upwardly rela-- tively to the nut 1 by means of the handle 6, the bag is pulled into the nozzle ring, and owing to rotation of the sleeve 5 and accordingly of the clamped sleeve 2, the bag is simultaneously twisted when pulled upwards, so that the contents of the bag are squeezed and the juices are thoroughly extracted. Additional extracting pressure can .be exerted by means of a pair of tongs M, the jaws 15 of which are obliquely disposed one with respect to the other in order to adapt themselves to the shape of the bag.
A cup 13 disposed within the frame I2 serves to collect the extracted juices which are absolutely free of ballast material and are germless.
Various changes and modifications may be made in the constructional details without departing from the ambit of the invention, by adding customary practice and established knowledge of the art to the present disclosure while the scope of the specification and claims is not to be regarded as limited except as specified therein.
I claim:
1. In a juice extractor of the kind described, the combination of a frame, a bag adapted to contain the material to be squeezed, a nozzle ring mounted in the frame and surrounding the bag, a, threaded traction sleeve having a conical bore, a clamping member for gripping the upper end of said bag passing through the nozzle ring, said clamping member including a plurality of complementary gripping parts forming a truncated cone when joined together and fitting into the conical bore of the traction sleeve, and a screw nut mounted on the frame and engaging said threaded sleeve whereby rotation of the sleeve to unscrew it from the nut causes said clamping member moving with the sleeve to exert a simultaneous traction and a twisting action on said bag to pull it through the nozzle ring and squeeze the contents thereof. 7
2. In a juice extractor of the kind described, the combination of a. frame, a plate supported by the frame and having a tapered opening therein, a bag adapted to contain the material to be squeezed, a tapered nozzle ring surround.- ing the bag and fitting into the tapered opening of said plate, a threaded traction sleeve having a tapered bore extending above the nozzle ring, a, clamping member for gripping the upper end of the bag passing through the nozzle ring, said clamping member including a plurality of complementary gripping. jaws forming a truncated cone when joined togetherand fitting into the tapered bore of said traction sleeve, and a screw nut mounted on said plate and engaging said threaded sleeve, the taper of the bore in the threaded sleeve being opposed to the taper of the opening in said plate whereby rotation of the sleeve to unscrew it from the nut causes the clamping member and the nozzle ring to be applied to the corresponding tapered surfaces, the clamping member moving with said sleeve exerting a simultaneous traction and twisting action on the bag to pull it through the nozzle ring and squeeze thecontents thereof.
3. In a juice extractor of the kind described,
, a frame, having a constriction opening through which a filter bag is to be drawn to exert pressure on the contents of the bag, said frame having a screw-threaded member extending laterally thereto, a sleeve having screw threads engaging said member for feeding said sleeve axially away from and toward said constriction opening, said sleeve having a conical opening extending therethrough toward said constriction opening with its smaller end toward said constriction opening, a pair of clamping jaws having together a conical outer surface corresponding to the inner opening of said sleeve, and'having together an opening extending therethrough toward the constriction opening and provided with corrugations for gripping a bag end, whereby in operation when the open end portion of a bag is inserted through the constriction opening and into said sleeve the clamping jaws are placed in said sleeve with the bag end therebetween and the sleeve is turned with respect to said screw-threaded member in one direction, the jaws grip the bagend more firmly, and the bag is pulled through the constriction opening and pressure is exerted on the material in the bag to be extracted, and when the sleeve is turnedin the other direction the pressure of the jaws on said bag end is released so that the bag can be removed.

In a juice extractor of the kind described, a frame, a base supporting said frame in elevated position, a hinge connection between said base and frame to permit said frame to be tipped laterally to provide access to the underside thereof, said frame being provided with an upwardly convergent opening extending therethrough, a
pair of segments having together an external shape fitting in said opening in the frame and together being provided with a central constriction opening, for facilitating insertion of a filter bag end through said frame opening by removing the said segments during insertion and replacing said segments afterward, said frame having a screw-threaded member extending laterally therefrom opposite said base, a sleeve having screw threads engaging said member for feeding said sleeve laterally away from and toward said constriction opening, said sleeve having a conical opening extending therethrough toward said constriction opening with its smaller end toward said constriction opening, a pair of clamping jaws having together a conical outer surface corresponding to the inner opening of said sleeve, and having together an opening extending therethrough towardthe constriction opening, and provided with corrugations for gripping a bag end, whereby in operation when the open end portion of a bag is inserted through the constriction opening and into said sleeve the clamping jaws are placed in said sleeve with the bag end therebetween and the sleeve is turned with respect to said screw-threaded member in one direction, the jaws grip the bag end more firmly and the bag is pulled through the constriction opening, and pressure is exerted on the material in the bag to be extracted, and when the sleeve is turned in the other direction the pressure of the jaws on said bag end is released so that the bag can be removed.
5. In a juice extractor of thekind described the combination of a frame, a bag adapted to contain the material to be squeezed, a nozzle ringmounted in the frame and surrounding the bag, a contractible clamping sleeve for gripping the end of the bag passing through the nozzle ring, an. externally threaded traction sleeve having a conical bore engaging said contractible clamping sleeve, and a nut member mounted on the frame and engaging said threaded traction sleeve whereby relative rotation of said traction sleeve and said nut member causes axial movement of the traction sleeve and the clamping sleeve to 'pull said bag through the nozzle ring.

In a juice extractor of the kind described, the combination of a frame, a bag adapted to contain the material to be squeezed, a nozzle ring mounted in the frame and surrounding the bag, a contractible clamping sleeve for gripping the end of the bag passing through the nozzle ring, an externally threaded traction sleeve having a conical bore engaging said contractible sleeve with the bag end held therein, and said traction sleeve holding said ring in longitudinally spaced relation to the nozzle ring, and a nut member mounted on theframe and engaging said threaded traction sleeve whereby relative rotation of saidtraction sleeve and said nut member causes axial and rotary movement of the clamping sleeve, and the bag is pulled through the nozzle ring and twisted between said clamping sleeve and nozzle ring.
