2 Claims.
This invention relates to an improved protective covering adapted to be worn while removing and putting on clothing to prevent the soiling of the clothing by cosmetics and the like which are applied to the face of a person, and to prevent disarranging of the hair.
vThe primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved device of the above kind which will effectively cover the face and part of the hair of the user without contacting the face or impairing vision.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a covering of the above kind which is extremely simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and efficient in use.
The present invention consists in the novel form, combination and. arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a protective covering constructed in accordance with the present invention and illustrated as the same appears in use.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the covering shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view thereof; and
Figure 4 is a horizontal section on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the present protective covering includes a concavoconvex guard or mask-like member 5 shaped to completely cover the face and the forward part of the hair of the user and of a size to extend below the chin when the upper part of the guard is disposed to rest upon the forward part of the head as shown in Figure 1. This guard or masklike member is made of stiff netting, Cellophane or like material which will not impair vision therethrough, and may be made of one or more pieces and provided at the sides, top and bottom with darts 6 so that the guard will conform to the head.
The present covering also includes upper and lower attaching bands i and 8 spaced apart and arranged to be secured about the upper portion of the head and about the neck, respectively. The guard or mask-like member 5 is attached at its side edge portions to the sideportions of the bands I and 8 as at 9 with the front portions of the bands I and 8 unattached to and spaced rearwardly of the adjacent portions of the guard or mask-like member 5, so that when the bands 1 and 8 are tied about the head and neck of the wearer as shown, said guard or mask-like member 5 will be effectively fastened in place out of cont-act with the face and forehead of the user, only the top portion of the guard 5 contacting the top of the head. Maintenance of the guard 5 in proper position and out of contact with the face of the user is also assisted by means of a crown strap i6 attached at its forward end to the top of the guard 5 centrally between the sides of the latter and provided at its rear end with a loop H through which one end of the band i freely extends. While the ends of the bands 1 and 8 may be connected in any suitable way or by any suitable means, they are simply illustrated as adapted to be tied.
When the device is positioned upon the user as above described and clearly shown in Figure 1, the covering prevents material disarrangement of the hair by covering the forward portion of the same, in addition to preventing the transfer of cosmetics to the garments when clothing is being removed or put on. At the same time, the user is permitted vision and free breathing at all times.
What we claim as new is: v
1. A protective covering adapted to be worn while removing or putting on clothing to prevent soiling of the clothing by cosmetics or the like and to prevent disarranging of the hair, comprising a concave-convex guard member of masklikc form, said guard member being formed of stiff transparent material and shaped to cover the face and the forward portion of the head of the user, upper and lower attaching bands arranged to be secured about the upper portion of the head and. the neck of the user, said uard being attached at its side edge portions to opposite sides of said bands and in spaced relation to the forward portions of said bands so as to occupy a position out of contact with the face of the user when the bands are secured about the upper portion of the head and the neck, and a crown strap attached at its forward end to the top of said guard intermediate the sides of the latter and having a loop at its rear end through which an end of the upper band slidably extends.
2. A protective covering adapted to be worn while removing or putting on clothing to prevent soiling of the clothing by cosmetics or the like and to prevent disarranging of the hair, comprising a concave-convex guard member of masklike form, said guard member being formed of stiff transparent material and shaped to cover the face and the forward portion of the head of the user, upper and lower attaching bands arranged to be secured about the upper portion of the head and the neck of the user, said guard guard having darts formed in the top, side and being attached at its side edge portions to opbottom portions thereof so as to conform the posite sides of said bands and in spaced relation same to the wearers head and to cause the guard to the forward portions of said bands so as to to extend below and under the wearers chin out occupy a position out of contact with the face of 5 of contact with the latter.
the user when the bands are secured about the THEODORE M. TATE. upper portion of the head and the neck, said MARY HELEN TATE.
