B'Claims.
This invention relates to neckties and hasfor an object to provide a necktie includingy a permanent knot having a depending portion and a neckband having a depending portion, the depending portionof the neckband as well as theA neckband itself being equipped with a Zipper, the slide of which is connected to the reinforcing plate of the knot so that when the neckband is slipped over the head and the Zipper closed,` the knot may be drawn up `snugly underneath the wings of the shirt collar and will simulate in appearance a necktie of the four-in-hand type, but which in contrast to the latter may be removed from the shirt by simply pulling down on the knot with one hand to open the Zipper and permit the neckband being easily slipped over the wearers head.
A further object is to provide a necktie of this type which may be constructed in various styles and of Various materials and which, when applied, will always present a neat appearance in that the Zipper is entirely concealed from. View by the knot and its depending portion.
A further object is to provide a necktie of this character which will be formed of a few strong simple and durable parts, Which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the neckband with its depending portion carrying a Zipper having the slide equipped With a threaded socket member.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the permanent knot and its depending portion, the knot being equipped with la reinforcing metal plate carrying a threaded stud adapted to be screwed into the threaded socket of the Zipper slide.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view with parts in elevation of the knot applied to the Zipper of the neckband.
Figure l is a detail perspective view of one type of Zipper slide.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the knot reinforcing plate.
Figure 6 is a perspective- View of another type of Zipper slide:
Referring now tothe drawing in whichlike characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, IIJ designates arneckbandk having adependingportion Il provided centrally with a longitudinal opening. I2 which is closedy by-'a Zipper I3-.f The companion'parts of theZipper extend beyond the'opening and are= securedv to the upper edge ofthe neckband for-a sufficient distance to permit the neckband beingapplied` to a shirt collar snugly when the Zipper is closed. In this position of the neckband the depending portion Il extends downward along the shirt front in the same manner as the rear depending portion of a conventional four-in-hand necktie.
In further carrying out the invention a permanent knot I4 is provided with a depending portion I5 similar to the depending portion II of the neckband and adapted to simulate the depending front portion of a conventional four-inhand necktie. The knot is reinforced by a thin metal plate I6 which is interposed between two of the layers of the material of the knot. The plate is secured in place by a line of stitching passed through perrorations Il formed in the plate adjacent to the marginal edge of the plate, as shown in Figure 5.
The slide I8 of the Zipper is provided in one embodiment of the invention with an interiorly threaded socket member I9 which projects from that face of the slide which is exposed on the front of the neckband and its depending portion, as best shown in Figure l. In another embodiment of the slide the interiorly threaded socket 2|) is in the nature of a tube which is formed integral with the upper cross bar 2l of the slide.
'Ihe reinforcing plate I6 is provided with an exteriorly threaded stud 22 near the upper edge thereof which is pointed at the end, as shown at 23, to permit the stud being forced through the the material of the knot and screwed into the threaded socket I9, or 20 as the case may be, to attach the knot t0 the Zipper slide.
In operation the necktie may be applied to the shirt collar by simply slipping the neckband Ill over the wearers neck and then grasping the knot Ill in one hand while the other hand holds the depending portion II of the neckband and sliding the slide I8 of the Zipper upwardly until the knot lodges underneath the wings of the shirt collar. When it is desired to remove the necktie, it is simply necessary to grasp the knot I4 in one hand and pull the same downwardly, thereby Sliding the Zipper slide I8 downwardly to o pen the Zipper and permit the neckband l0 to open suiciently to be easily slipped over the wearers head. 4
From the a-bove description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
1. A necktie including a permanent knot having a depending portion, a reinforcing plate disposed Within the knot, a neckband having a depending portion, the depending portion of the necklband having a longitudinal opening, a Zipper closing the opening and extending along the upper edge of the neckband, said Zipper having a slide, and means connecting the slide to said reinforcing plate, the arrangement being such that when the neckband is slipped over the head and the Zipper closed, the knot may be drawn up f snugly underneath the Wings of a shirt collar to dispose the depending portion of the kno-t in front of the depending portion of the neckband to conceal the Zipper and simulate in appearance a necktie of the four-in-hand type.
2. A necktie including a permanent knot having a depending portion, a reinforcing plate disposed within the knot, a stud secured to the plate and projecting from the knot, a neckband having a depending portion, the depending portion of the neckband having a longitudinal opening,
a Zipper closing the opening and extending along the upper edge of the nedkband, said Zipper having a slide, and a socket member secured to said slide and receiving said stud, the arrangement being such that when the neckband is slipped up over the head and the Zipper closed the knot may be drawn up snugly underneath the Wings of a shirt collar to dispose the depending portion of the knot in fro-nt of the depending portion of the neckband to conceal the Zipper and simulate in appearance a necktie of the four-in-hand type.
3. A necktie including a permanent knot having a depending portion, a reinforcing plate disposed Within the knot, a stud secured to the plate and having a threaded portion projecting beyond the material of the knot, a neckband having a depending portion, the depending portion of the neckband having a longitudinal opening, a Zipper closing the opening and extending along the upper edge of the necloband, said Zipper having a slide, and an interiorly threaded socket member secured to the slide and receiving the threaded portion of the stud, the arrangement being such that When the neckband is slipped up over` the head and the Zipper closed the knot may be drawn up snugly underneath the Wings of a shirt collar to dispose the depending portionof the knot in front of the depending portion of the neclkband to conceal the Zipper and simulate in appearance a necktie of the four-in-hand type.
