Description

Aug.,l3, 1935. A. P. ROWAN MANS AND BOYS OUTER SHIRT Filed Nov. 12, 1934 Patented Aug. 13, 1935 UNITED STATES ATNT OFFICE MANS AND BOYS OUTER SHIRT Alfred P. able from the shirt, are frequently with difiiculty and inconvenience attached in tie-retaining position on the tie and shirt, and are often accidental-- 1y lost or misplaced, to the resulting loss or in convenience of the owner.
My present invention has forits object the provision upon, and as substantially an integral or non-separable part of, the shirt of an attractive, inexpensive holder in the form of. a flexible loop readily, easily, and with convenience engaged with the necktie-ends for retaining the same efficiently in place approximately fiatwise over the shirt-front. 1
, And with the above and other objects in View, my invention resides in the. novelv features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts presently described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a fragmental elevational view of a mans or boys outer shirt equipped with a necktie-holder of my invention, the front flap of the shirt being shown turned back to display the permanent connection between the shirt and holder; Figure 2 is also a fragmental plan View of the shirt, illustrating the necktie-holder in concealed position, as when not in use; I v
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2, showing the necktie-holder presented for use forwardly v through the adjacent flap button-hole; and V Figure 4 shows the shirt of Figure 1 and an associate necktie with its ends engaged and retained by the holder. 1 Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of. my invention, A designates a mans or boys outer shirtof standard structure, the same as is usual, beingopen in front and comprising a front portion a having a standard four-in-hand or other necktie B, whose ends 6 depend from the collar 5 over the front or bosom of the shirt A.
C designates a suitable section of preferably silk or other fabricated flexible cord, braid, .or the like, which is doubled uponitself into the formation of a loop, and whose ends are, by stitching or other suitable fastening means, permanently secured and fixed, as at l, to and upon the inner or under face of. the outer or upper shirt-flap 2 adjacent a button-hole, as, in the present instance, the button-hole 411.
Accordingly, when not in use or to be used, or
abnormally, as it may be said, the loop C will loop C is then, or normally, as it may similarly be said, presented forwardly ,ofthe shirt A, as
shown in Figure 3, and is then with ease and,
convenience engaged with the depending necktieends 5, the loop 0 then most efficiently, as a holder, retaining such necktie-ends 6 neatlyand attractively in fiatwise position over the shirtfront, as illustrated in Figure 4.
The holder C is in itself inexpensive and als with little expense is united as an integral part of the shirt A. Loss of the holder is eliminated, and the holder in no way interferes with the use or care of the shirt, the holder in every respect fulfilling the object stated and most efficiently performing its intended functions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,- 1. With a'shirt' with which a necktie will be worn, a section of cord-like material doubled upon itself and having itsends affixed to the front.
of a shirt in proximate position to present a bightlike loop available on the outer front ofthe shirt to receive and encircle the end of a necktie.
2. In combination with an outer shirt with which a necktie wil be worn, a section of cord-like material doubled upon itself to form a bight-like loop and having its ends stitched to the front of the shirt in closely adjacent position to present a projecting loop to receive and encircle the depend: ing end of a necktie.
3. With a shirt havinga front closure provided with button and buttonhole strips, a loop secured on the inside of the buttonhole strip adjacent to a buttonhole and having abight portion to be pulled allow free buttoning and unbuttoning of the butoptionallir through the buttonholeto present a, necktie receiving loop on the outer side'and yet ton.
4. With a. shirt provided with a. closure strip on its' forward side adjacent to which a necktie worn with the shirt will depend, a; cord-like member doubled upon itself to form a bight and. having its a forwardly projecting loop to receive and. hold the depending end ofv a necktie.
' ALFRED P. ROWAN.
