`DETAGHABLYE BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,144, dated February 3, 1880.
Application filed September 26, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Re it known that I, J OTHAM P. CARPENTER, ofAttleborough, count5T of Bristol, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Detachable Buttons; and I hcreb5Y declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention consists in the novel arrangement, with a pusher, of a spring contained in the shank of the button, and in the peculiarV construction of the pusher, all of which will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure l is a sectional view of the improved button, showin gthe shoe secured by the hooked .end of the pusher and the spring contained Within the tubular shank of the button.` Fig. 2 is a view ot' the .button-disk, showing the Vpusher and the groove in which it slides. Fig. 3 is an enlarged View of the pusher, and Fig."
4 a view of the pusher-blank.
VIn the drawings, a is the button-disk. the tubular shank of the button. Y Gis a groove in which the pusher d slides. The end of the pusher d is bent over so as to form a hook, which extends over the projecting rim on the tubular shank fof the shoe. The spring e is pushed into the tubular shank b, one end entering the hole g in the pusher, and when the tubular shank bl is secured to the'disk a of the button the spring e is firmly retained, and yet free to act on the pusher d.
bis
By placing the bent leaf-spring e into the tubular shank it is Well protected against dust or other impurities liable to interfere with the free working-oi' the spring, and a neater and cheaper button is produced.
rEhe pusher is stamped out of sheetmetal, as shown in Fig. 4. The central portion, h, is square, so as to slide inv the groove C. The end is turned-over, as shown in Fig. 3, and the flat portion K isdrawn up in dies until the round end is formed.
This improveddetachable button issimple in construction, and all the parts are strong, durable, and the spring protected from injury.
Having thus described my invention, Iv
claimv as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. 1n a detachable button, the combination, with the button disk c, tubular shank b, and the shoe provided with the tubular shank f, having a projecting rim at its open end, ofthe pusher Yel, provided with the hook t', and the spring e, placed within the shank b, arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A pusher, d, provided with the square.
portion 7L, the bent hook i, the cylindrical portion K, and the hole g, substantially as described.
