that are brought into engaging and disengaging positions through the medium of a slide member,

10 a fastener of suchcharacter being known in the trade as a Talon fastener. Such multiple operated separable fasteners include a finger grip or tongue adapted to be gripped by the operator for moving the slide member for the multiple 'op- 15 eration of the fasteners.

It is the primary object of the present invention to provide an ornamental attachment for v the operating tongue of a Talon fastener which may be readily engaged with and disengaged 20 from the tongue and to substitute for the usual unsightly operating tongue, an ornamental device to improve the appearance of the fastener.

A further object of the invention is to provide an ornamental attachment for multiple operated 25 separable fasteners wherein said attachment is readily engageable with and disengageable from the operating tongue for the slide element of the fastener, with the ornamental attachment also being constructed for independent use as a 3 hair or garment ornament.

A further object of the invention is to provid an ornamental attachment for multiple operated separable fasteners wherein the fastener includes an operating tongue pivotally supported on a slide member associated with the separable fasteners, the operating tongue being provided with an opening therein while the ornamental attachment is constructed for attachment to said tongue with an abutment on the attachment 40 receivable in the tongue opening to retain the attachment engaged with the tongue.

With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in 45' general of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing and particularly to the form of invention shown in Figures 1 to 4, the multiple operated separable fastener comprises the usual Y I fabricstrlps l0.having interengaging separable fasteners II on corresponding edges thereof, a

The operating tongue l3 for a Talo'n" fastener is usually exposed when the separable fasteners are in their latched condition and presents a somewhat unsightly appearance, and it is the primary object of this invention to provide an ornamental attachment for the operating finger I3 which will completely shield the same, provide a more substantial hand-grip for the operation of the slide I2 and otherwise beautify the fastener by-- presenting a more finished and artistic appearance. While the attachment may assume any configuration desired or appropriate design from an artistic standpoint, the attachment in the form of invention illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 is symbolic of a tortoise or turtle desv ignated in general by the reference character It and comprises a marginal frame I1 from which extend legs and feet I8 and a head I9, the frame I6 supporting therein an arched cover or backing 20 that may be suitably ornamented or decorated characteristic of the back of a turtle. i

As shown in Figures 2 and 3 the bottom face of the attachment I8 ,carries a pair of pointed prongs or pins 2i connected together at corresponding ends by a hinge pin 22 that is Journaled in a hinge barrel 23 extending transversely of the tail portion of the attachment IS, the pins being employed for retaining the attachment in position as an ornament when the same is desired for use as a hair barrette or a garment ornament.

To connect the attachment IE to the operating finger I2 of the slide fastener Talon, the bottom face of the attachment I5 as shown in Figures 2 to 4 has a plate 24 of generally rectangular formation in plan view secured thereto bymeans of a cross bar 25 secured at its ends between the opposite sides of the frame II with a cross bar 25 providing a support for the forward end of the plate 24 that may be spotwelded or otherwise secured thereto. The lower end of the plate 24 is spot-welded or otherwise secured to the tail portion of the frame I1. A guide rib 26 extends longitudinally of each side of the plate 24 and provides a slot therebetween for the reception of a latch arm 21 pivotally mounted as at 28 on the end of the plate 24 above the cross bar 25. The free swinging end of the latch arm 21 has an operating finger piece 29 whilethebottom face of the latch arm 21 beneath said finger piece carries a depending lug 30. The pivotal mount 28 for the latch arm 21 is spaced upwardly of the plate 24. To connect the ornamental attachment to the finger I3 of the fastener slide I2, the latch finger 21 is swung outwardly on its hinge mounting 28', the free end of the slide finger I3 passed between the hinge 28 and the plate 24 with the finger occupying the space between and below the guide ribs 26 with the opening I5 in the finger I3 being positioned so that when the latch finger 21 is moved to its closed position the lug 30 carried thereby will enter the'opening I5 in the finger I3 to hold the. attachment I8 engaged with the finger I3. It will be understood that the ornamental attachment 16 then becomes a fixed part of the slide finger I3 and is pivotally movable with the finger I3. It will also be observed from an inspection of Figures 2 and 3 that the guide ribs 26'carry outwardly projecting pins 3I that cooperate with the garment piercing prongs or pins II to assist the latter in holding the attachment onto a garment or in the hair of the user.

In the form of invention illustrated in Fig- .ures 5 to 8, the multiple operated separable fastener includes the fabric strips I0 carrying the separable fastener elements II, the slide I2 'for the fasteners being operated by the finger I face of the wrist portion 32 as shown more clearly in Figures 6 to 8, has atabular guide 35 attached thereto in any suitable manner as by soldering, welding or the like, the guide tube 35 being flattened into rectangular formation in cross-section as shown in Figure 8, while the outer wall thereof is longitudinally slit as at 36 to. provide an intermediate resilient tongue 31 from which projects at the inner end thereof an inwardly directed lug 38. When the slide finger 13 of the fastener is inserted in the tubular guide 35, the lug 38 carried by the resilient finger 31, as shown in Figure 6, moves into the opening I5 at the free end of the finger I3 and retains the ornamental hand I6 in engagement wit the slide operating finger I3.

In both forms of the invention it will be observed that the operating finger I3 carried by the fastener operating slide I2 is of generally rectangular formation in plan view and that the cooperating elements of the attachment with which the finger I3 is associated is of the same general formation so that a substantially rigid connection is formed between the attachment l6 and I6 when engaged with the slide operlate be understood that minor changes may be made in the details of construction, such as will fall within the scope of the invention-as claimed.

I claim:

1. In an attachment for multiple operated separable fasteners, wherein the fastener includes a slide member and a finger grip pivotally attached at one end to said slide member, and wherein the free end of the finger grip has an opening therein, said attachment including an ornamental body adapted tocompletely overlie the slide and finger grip, and a latch member carried by the body adapted for interfitting reception in the opening in said finger grip.

2. In an attachment for multiple operated separable fasteners, wherein the fastener includes a slide member and a finger grip pivotally attached at one end to said slide member, and wherein the free end of the finger grip has an opening therein, said attachment including an ornamental body adapted to completely overlie the slide and finger grip, and a latch member carried by the body adapted for interfitting reception in the opening in said finger grip, said I latch members comprising a resilient arm having a lug receivable in the finger grip opening.

3. In an attachment for multiple operated separable fasteners, wherein the fastener includes a slide member and a finger grip pivotally attached at one end to said slide member, and wherein the free endof the finger grip has an opening therein, said attachment including an ornamental body adapted to completely overlie the slide and finger grip, and a latch member carried by the body adapted for interfitting reception in the opening, in said finger grip, said latch member comprising a resilient arm having a lug receivable in the finger grip opening, said finger grip and latch member being cooperatively constructed whereby movement of the attachment relative to the finger grip is prevented when the attachment is latchingly engaged with the finger grip.

In a removable attachment for multiple operated separable fasteners, wherein the fastener ception in the opening in said finger grip, said latch member comprising a tubular guide for the-sliding reception of the finger grip, the side wall of the guide being split to provide a resilient arm and a lug on the arm receivable in the fin- 5 er g p op CLAIRE BAXTER MARCUS.
