` 1 claim.' (o1. 281-11) The invention relates to memorandum holders and has for its primary object the provision of an improved construction of the character indicated which is capable of economical production and E highly eilicient in use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists of the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a sheet metal container 25 I@ having a sloping open top and inwardly raised bosses ii in its sides constituting trunnions adapted and arranged to enter the ends of wooden spools i2 constituting the cores of paper rolls i3,

f as indicated. By this arrangement a simple and 3@ convenient construction is provided whereby paper rolls for memorandum purposes may be readily mounted and renewed in the container i@ so as to permit the withdrawal of a continuous strip is therefrom. Y

3&3 The container E@ is provided with a sheet metal cover i5 hinged thereto by a hinge rod I6 and provided with depending flanges i5' fitting over the sides of the container I0. A guide member i1 is provided with a`central opening I8 and is arte ranged to be fitted over and secured to the` cover I5 and slightly spaced therefrom to form guides for the passage of the strip I4, as best indicated l in Fig. 3, said guide thus becoming a part of said cover. At its lower end the cover I5 is provided with a. guide lip I9 encircling the hinge .rod I6, to facilitate the passage of the strip I4 around said hinge rod andunder the guide member I1,

as indicated. The guide member I1 is provided with depending iianges 20 fitting over the iianges I5 and the sides of the container I0, said .anges 20 and I5' being provided with bearing openings for the passage and mounting of a feed shaft 2|,

as indicated. The feed shaft 2l is provided with two spaced rubber roller sections 22 and at its L ends with operating wheels 23.

The roller sections 22 fit through a slot 24 in the cover member I5 and are arranged to press the strip I4 against the' underside of the guide I1, as best indicated in Fig. 3, and whereby said wheels 23 may be readily utilized for withdrawing sections of the strip I4 from the roller I3, as will be readily understood.

Notches 25 are provided as shown in the sides of the container I0 to receive the shaft 2l when the cover, I5-I1 is swung downwardly into closed position and said notches are vprovided at their bottoms with lateral recesses 26 adapted and arranged to interlock releasably with the shaft 2l to hold the cover I5 releasably in position on the container I0. i in use and in operation a paper roll I3 of suitable size is inserted in the container I0 as indicated with the bosses II engaging the ends of the spool I2, the cover I5 being swung into the dotted line position indicated in Fig. 2 for the 20 purpose. Then the end of the strip I4 from the roli i3 is passed around the lip i9 under the guide member I1 to pass across the surface of the cover I5 under the opening I8, said surface thus constituting la writing surface for the strip I4, as 25 will be readily understood. As will be noted, the end of thevstrip I4 will be thus yieldingly pressed against the undersidevof the upper vportion of the guide I1 so that when the shaft 2l is turned by means of the wheels 23 a portion of said strip will so be withdrawn from the roll i3 and fed over the writing surface of the cover I5, thereby greatly facilitating the making of memoranda on the strip it. After the memoranda are made, the strip is fed until the same passes beyond the upper g5 edge of the guide I1 against which the samemay be readily torn for removal. 1n the meantime, of course, a fresh section of strip I4 is broughtv under the opening I8 for further memoranda. As will be observed, the feeding mechanism for the o strip I4 is thus entirely mounted on the hinged cover I5 so that when the cover is swung into its open position, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, the interior of the container will be entirely exposed and the insertion of the paper roll and 45 the threading of the strip I4 willbe greatly facilitated. It is to be.understood that the guide I1 is regarded as being apart of the cover because once the guide I1 is in place, it and the cover I5 operate as a unit without relative movement. 50 The specific form and arrangement of parts disclosedv is a simple and effective construction for the purpose.

While I have illustrated and described the pre- I ferred form, of construction for carrying the inand modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire' to avail myself ofsuch variations and modications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
