PATENT OFFICE.
DOCTOR L. COOPER, F NEWTON, MISSISSIPPI.
ORDER 0R NOTE PAPER ROLL MACHINE.
Application lcd August 31, 1923. Serial No. 660,282.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DOCTOR L. COOPER, citizen of the United States, residing at Newton, inl the county of Newton and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Order or Note Paper Roll Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for facilitating the taking of orders or notes given by phone call or the like, and has particular reference to an improvement upon the order or note paper roll machine set forth inmy copending application for U. S. Letters Patent, Serial No. 647,887, filed June 26, 1923.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above kind, which embodies durable and simple construction, by means of which the taking of orders may be conveniently accomplished due to the convenient mounting of the required paper and pencil, and upon which said orders may be temporarily filed.
Specific objects of the invention are further to provide simple and desirable means for detachably mounting the roller paper and for facilitating feeding of the pape under the tearing knife.
Other objects of the invention will be readily understood from the following description and claim taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.
Inthe drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the views:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an order or note paper roll machine constructed in accordance wit/h the present invention.
.Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view, taken substantially upon the line 3--3 of Figure l.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view illustrating details of the construction for mounting the paper roll, and
Figure 5 is a transverse vertical sectional View, taken through the base plate forwardly .of the tearing blade.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the invention embodies a base plate 5 provided with suitable supporting feet 6 and preferably having the upper surface thereof disposed on a slight incline for convenience in writing upon the paper 7 when the free end portion of the latter is disposed thereon.
The rear portion of the base plate 5 is reduced in width, and a back wall 8 is rigid with and extends upwardly from the rear edge of the reduced portion of the base plate as shown clearly in Figures 1 and 3, the back wall having forwardly extending side lwalls rigid therewith which extend upwardly from the side edges of the reduced portion of the base plate 5 as clearly shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive.
Rearwardly and downwardly inclined grooves 10 are formed in the inner surfaces of the upper portions ofthe side walls 9 and these grooves open at the forward edges of the side members for removable reception of the spindle 11 of a paper roll indicated at 12.v
A suitable U-shaped paper guide 13 is suspended from the sides 9 beneath the grooves 10, the paper being inserted behind said guide and thus downwardly around a 'suitable guide roller 14 journalled in the lower portions of the sides 9 directly above the upper surface of the base plate 5 'adjacent the back wall 8.
A suitable tearing knife 15 is fastened upon the base plate 5 directly in front lof 4the roller 14 preferably by attaching the ends of said knife to the base plate, and the paper is adapted to be passed beneath this paper tearing knife so as to expose the paper forwardly of the knife for receiving the notes to be written thereon.
In the use of the present device, it will be found advantageous to provide a clip 16 upon one of the sides 9 for rece-ption of a pencil as indicated by dotted lines at 17 in Figure 1, and the Vorders may be temporarily filed upon a filing hook 18 mounted uponthe other side 9 of the device.
In order to detachably retain the ends of the roll spindle 11 within the grooves 10,
the Outer ends of these grooves are normally closed by resilient swinging retaining strip 19 that is hinged as at 20 to the edgel of each side wall 9 adjacent said groove 10. f
The base plate 5 is provided with a groove or socket 21 beneath. the tearinfr knife 15, and arranged within this socket or groove 21 is a roller 22 over which the paper 7 passes, said roller being vertically adjustable by means of screws 23 threaded through the base plate and bearing upon the ends of the 4spindle of the roller .22 as shown clearly in Figure 5. In this manner, the roller 22 may be adjusted toward the knife 15 so as to from ,the knife l5 may be@ readily accom plishedafter each order is taken and the piece of paper-'torn olf upon which vsaid `order is written.
From the above description, it will be seen that the device embodies' practical specific improvements over the construction set forth in my above mentioned copending application by means of'whicli the device will meet with all of the requirements for a successful commercial use.
Minor changes may be made lWithout departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as newis: A device of the class described comprising a base, an upright rising from one side thereof, said upright being of a predetermined width and having vertically extending -anges formed on its opposite vertical edges, the inner faces of said flanges being provided Witli the inclined open ended recesses adapted toI receive the journals of a `paper holding roll, clips for retaining said journals in position, a paper tension and guiding roll rotatably mounted between the lower portions of said flanges at a point beneath the journals of the paper holding roller, the paper being adapted to be trained over said guiding roller. in the manner to dis ose,l it between the adjacent portions of the anges, permitting the latter to function additionally for confining the paper therebetween.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
