To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT D. JUDD, of Wallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new `f nd valuable Improvementin Inkstands; and

do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference markedthereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the yoke to which the ink-reservoir is connected. Fig?) is a side elevation of the inlcreservoir, and Fig. 4 is an under-plan view of the base of the inkstand.

rJhe present invention has reference to that class of inkstands provided with a reservoir for the ink, which is connected to a suitable frame in such a manner as to admit of its being tilted or swung down when required for use.

The invention consists in a yoke for supporting the swinging ink-reservoir, said yoke having a cap, against which the mouth of the reservoir closes, and detachably connected to supports upon the base or frame of the inkstand.

The invention further consists in connecting the reservoir to the detachable yoke in such a manner that the reservoir can be readily disconnected from the same when required for cleaning or other purposes.

The invention also consists in the means employed for -connecting the side pieces or supports for the yoke to the base of the inkstand, as will be hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawings, A` represents the base of the inkstand, of any suitable form and design, cast with or having connected thereto by any suitable means supports B. In this instance, however, I have shown the supports cast separately from the base A, and afterward connected thereto in the following manner:

The supports are formed with inclined plates a, which pass through openings in the base A, as do also claws b, formedon the supports B. These supports, after being placed in position, with the plates a and claws b in 'their respective openings, are securely locked to thebase by a wedge, C, held in position by a bolt or v of said yoke being detached or removed from its supports.

The form of support which I have considered preferable is that having a slot for the reception of lugs e upon the lower ends of the yoke D. The yoke D has a cap, E, ofany desirable form, either with or without a ange, f.

The reservoir F, of glass, porcelain, or other suitable material, is of the usual form used in this class of inkstand, and has upon its sides holes or depressions g, into which t pivots h upon the inner sides and at the lower ends of the yoke D.

In order to allow of the removal of the reservoir F from the pivots h and yoke D, the reservoir is provided with slots or grooves i, by which means the reservoir may be disconnected when required for cleaning..

The lugs c, pivots h, and cap E, although I prefer them cast with the yoke D, may be made separately and afterward attached thereto in any convenient manner.

As is the case with the supports, I do not desire to be understood as confining myself to the particular construction of yoke shown and described, as it may be variously modified, so long as it is adapted to beremoved from its supports, andthe ink-reservoir may be connected to the yoke in any convenient manner that will admit of the two being separated from each other,

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim4 as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

6. The yoke D, having cap E, lugs e, and pivots h, said yoke being detachably connected to the supports B, in combination with the removable ink-reservoir F, havin g upon its sides holes or depressions g and slots or grooves z', substantially as and for the purpose described.

7 The means, substantially as specified, ot' connecting1 the supports B to the base A, consisting of a wedge, C, disposed between the under side of the base and inclined plates formed on the lower ends of the supports and passing through the base, as set forth.

8. The supports B, having inclined plates a and claws b, in combination with Wedge C, as a means for securing said supports to the base A, substantially as and forthe purpose specified.
