1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in street lamps, and more particularly to a street lamp having a metal shade in conjunction with an inner transparent waterproof shade or liner,
o said shades being adapted to be positioned about a light bulb and supported on the upper end of a metal street light post or standard.
An object of my invention is to provide an imv proved shade for street lights or the like, which i will comprise a supporting collar and a domeshaped cap member, between which are disposed a transparent waterproof shade or liner, and a metallic screen shade positioned about said inner liner and spaced therefrom, whereby injury to a l lamp bulb placed within the inner liner will be prevented.
A further object of my invention is to provide an improved street lamp having a collar adapted to be disposed upon the usual metal street light post or standard, and having a plurality of upwardly and outwardly extending supporting rods carried by said collar and adapted to support a dome-shaped reflector on their upper ends, together with a transparent waterproof shade or liner interposed between said collar and reflector, and a metallic screen shade disposed about the inner transparent waterproof shade and spaced therefrom whereby injury to said inner shade will be prevented.
Another object of my invention is to provide an improved street light utilizing a transparent waterproof shade or inner liner about the' light bulb, said inner liner being made of any desired material which may or may not be flexible, and
an outer protecting screen spaced from said inner screen, and formed of wire mesh of suflicient strength to prevent injury to the light bulb.
A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved street lamp construction which will be highly eicient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

In carrying Aout my invention, I provide a base or collar l, preferably formed of metal, and adapted to be seated upon the upper end of the customary metal street light post or standard y2.
Suitably supported within the upper end of the light post or standard 2 is a socket 4 in which the electric light bulb 5 will be received.
Supported on the upper portion of the base or 20 collar I, are a plurality of upwardly and routwardly extending tie rods or supporting rods 6,
the upper ends of which are threaded, and are adapted to extend through openings inthe inwardly extending annular flange l formed inte- 25 grally on the slanting annular cap ring 8, which serves as a reflector. The upper portion of the cap ring 8 is provided with an integrally formed vertically extending collar portion 9, and a transversely disposed web IB provided with a centrally 30 disposed threaded nut II.
A dome-shaped reector or closure I2 is adapted to seat down over the collar 9, and is provided with a central aperture in its upper end through which the fastening rod I3 is adapted 35 to extend. The opposite ends of the fastening rod I3 are threaded as at I4 and I5, and are adapted to be screwed into the threaded nut II and to receive the internally threaded locking nut I6, respectively, whereby the several portions of the dome-shaped closure or reflector may be supported in operative position. Ornamental scrolls I'I may be supported on the supporting rod 6 adjacent their upper ends if desired, and serve to set off the lamp structure and 45 to enhance its appearance.
Interposed between the dome-shaped closure or reflector, and the base or collar I,- I have provided an upwardly extending and outwardly flared metal mesh protecting screen I8, the 50 lower end of which is reduced to form the collar portion I9 which will be adapted to lit within the upper end of the base or collar I, to position the screen The upper end of the screen will be received within the annular flange 1 of 55 the cap ring 8, whereby the same will be positively supported in place.
An inner shade or liner 20 of any transparent waterproof material, preferably somewhat flexible, will be positioned within the metal mesh in spaced relation thereto, and will be provided at its lower end with the collar portion 2| adapted to seat within the upper end of the base or collar l within the collar portion I9 of the metal screen, and in contact therewith.
'I'he inner shade or liner 20 will be upwardly ared and extend to a point even with the upper end of the metal screen I8, and will contact the said upper end of the metal screen i8, to position the inner shade or liner so that the spaced metal screen will serve as a protection to the inner shade or screen whereby the same will be protected from injury from thrown stones and the like, and also the provision of the two screens or shades will prevent unauthorized removal of the light bulb 5.
It will be apparent that the neck 22 on the threaded upper ends of the supporting rods 6 may be either placed in position or removed, when the dome-shaped reector or closure I2 is removed.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that I have provided an ingenious and eflcient form of street light which combines the use of an inner transparent waterproof shade or liner, together with an outer shade or screen of metal mesh, which will be highly eilicient in operation, and which may be substituted for any type of light now employed upon the customary metal street light post or standard.
While I have described and illustrated my preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I do not intend to limit myself to the specic construction as described and shown, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A device of the character described comprising a supporting standard, a collar adapted to be positioned on the upper end of said standard, upwardly extended supporting rods secured to the collar, an annular cap ring supported on the upper ends of said rods, an upstanding flange on said cap ring, a web extending across the opening of the cap ring and having a threaded opening, a dome-shaped member fitted over said flange, a rod extending through said domeshaped member and having a threaded extremity positioned in the threaded opening of said web, securing the dome-shaped member to the cap ring, and a protecting screen disposed between the collar and cap ring, and a shade held in position between the collar and cap ring.
