This invention relates to lamp shades or globes, and has for its primary object the provision of a globe equipped with an annular flange adjacent one end to accommodate a novel construction of means for attaching the globe to the top of an electric lamp.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view of a globe or shade constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention and showing the same in use on an electric lamp.
Fig. 2 is a plan of the same with the electiic lamp socket indicated in section and with the supporting collar of the shade shown in open position.

My improved globe which is indicated at 1 is made of any suitable size and shape, is preferably pyriform and has an outer wall 2 and an inner wall 3 so that a chamber 4 is formed between the said walls, the said chamber being filled with perfectly clear water or with other suitable liquid. The walls are jointed together around the neck or base of the globe as at 5 and the globe is formed with an exterior annular flange 6 around its neck. The connecting portion 5 of the globe, between the walls, is provided with a filler opening 7 in which is a threaded socket or lining 8, a cap 9'being screwed in said socket or lining and forming a clo sure for the filler opening and adapting the globe to be readily supplied with the water or other liquid and also enabling the water Specification of Letters-Patent.

or other liquid to be readily drained between the walls of the globe.
Preferably, the innerwall 3; is formed at a flattened portion 10 which coacts with the corresponding portion of the outer wall and and enables a powerful lightto be directed 1n any point desired without curtailing the light thrown out in other directions from the globe. The clear water or other liquid in the globe, between its walls, takes off the glare from the lamp within the globe and renders the light soft and agreeable to the eye while yet powerful.
By the provision of the reflector, my im proved globe is adapted for use not only for ordinary lighting purposes but also for use as a headlight for an automobile or other vehicle. The liquid filler in the globe prevents glare and hence the use of a dimmer is unnecessary.
By placing coloring matter of any desired shade in the water with which the globe is filled the globe can be caused to produce a light of any desired color so that the globe is rendered very valuable for signaling and advertising purposes and is also rendered extremely valuable for use by physicians in the bio-dynamo-chromatic method or the colored light method of diagnosing diseases.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 6 the inner wall 3 of the globeis formed with a flattened, or cylindrical side portion 3* as well as with the flattened end portion 10*.
Other modifications may also be made within the scope of my invention.
In order to attach my improved globe or shade to the socket 11 of an electric lamp I provide a band 12 which is arranged around the neck of the globe and which bears against the flange 6. I alsoprovide a sup porting collar 13 which comprises a pair of members 14.- each of which has a semi-circular portion 15 and extended portions 16, 17. The ends 16 of the collar members are pivotally connected together by a pivot pin 18 which is bent as at 19 to pass outwardly over the flange 6 and is riveted or otherwise secured at its extremity as at 20 to one side of the band 12. At the opposite side of the band is a substantially U-shaped keeper 21 which is pivotally connected thereto as at 22 and which is adapted to engage and lock the ends 17 of the collar together so as to clamp the portions 15 of the collar around the electric lamp socket and to also secure the members 14 of the collar together to prevent casual disengagement of the collar from the socket. It will be understood that the collar serves to suspend and to support the shade efi'ectually and to position and retain the shade or globe concentrically with respect to the electric lamp bulb 23 therein. a While I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and con struction of the several parts, Without departing from the spirit of my invention,
