This invention relates tofurniture, and more particularly to furniture of the folding camp type, the primary object of the invention being to provide a folding camp cot which may be readily and easily converted into a chair, card table or the like.

An important object of the invention is to provides. device of this character wherein the canvas material forming a part of the structure, may be readilyand easily removed or replaced, eliminatingthe necessityof removing the usual securing means employed in permanently securing canvas to frames of furniture of this type.

A still further object of the invention'is to provide a camp cot embodying a plurality of pivotal ly connected sections, means being provided for securing one of the sections in an upright position, providing a chair back, when the device is converted for use as a chair.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the frame of the device folded to provide a chair.

Figure 2 is a perspective view illustrating the canvas material as secured in providing a complete chair.

Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating the frame as extended to provide a cot.

Figure 4 is perspective view illustrating the frame-in an extended position providing a. cot, the canvas covering being stretched over the frame.

Figure 5 is a side elevational view of the frame folded to provide a card table.

Figure 6 is a fragmental elevational view illustrating the frame folded in providing a table, the canvas material having been positioned on the 43 frame.

' Figure '7 is a sectional view taken on line 11 of Figure 6.

Figure 8 is a perspective view illustrating the securing plate at the lower end of one of the end sections, the securing plate providing means whereby the section of which the plate forms a part, may be supported in an upright position, providing the back of a folding camp chair.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the frame of the device, which is substantially rectangular 1938, Serial No. 197,241

in formation, includes an end section 5, intermediate section 6, and an end section 1. Each of these sections includes side rails 8, the end sections embodying bars 9 that are connected to the side rails 8 of the end sections, at the outer ends 5 thereof, securing the side rails in proper spaced relation with respect to each other at all times.

The side rails 8 of the intermediate section 6, are connected to the side rails of the end section 5, by means of the hinges l0, while the side rails of the intermediate section are connected to the side rails of the end section 1, by means of the hinges l l which are secured to the lower surfaces of theside rails of the sections 6 and 1.

Pins l2 extend from the ends of the side rails of the end sections 5 and 1, the pins being designed to fit into openings formed in the bars 9, I removably securing the bars 9 to the side rails of the frame.

Leg members l3 are pivotally connected to the side rails of the end section 5, and are held in their extended positions by means of the pivoted brace members l4.

Secured to the side rails of the end section 5, are arms indicated at I5, the arms having downwardly extended end portions l6 formed into hooks ll. These downwardly extended end portions l6 provide supports for the leg members 58, that are pivotally connected thereto, at W, the leg members l8 being held in their active or supporting positions, by means of the brace bars 20 that have pivotal connection with the arms I 5. These members 20 are formed with elongated openings having offset portions at their lower end, for the reception of the pins 2| that are secured to the leg members 18, so that when the members have been properly positioned, the leg members will be held against pivotal movement. Leg members 22 are pivotally connected with the end section .1, as clearly shown by the drawings, the leg members 22 being held in their upright positions, by means of the brace bars 23 that have pivotal connection with the leg members and side rails of the frame of the device.

Secured along the side rails of the frame of 45 the device, are brackets 24, each bracket having an outwardly extended portion 25 and an upwardly extended portion 26, the ends of the portions 25 and 26 being spaced apart to receive the bars 21 that are extended through pockets formed along the edge of the canvas material 28 used in providing the supporting surface of the chair or cot. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, when it is desired to position the supporting fabric on the frame, it is only necessary to slide the bars 21 into position within the pockets, whereupon the bars together with the canvas material may be forced into the brackets between the members 25 and 26, as shown by Figure '7 of the drawings. The reference character 29 designates plates that are secured to the outer ends of the cross bars of the end section 1, the plates being formed with notches 30 extending inwardly from one end thereof, the notches being designed to accommodate the pins 3| extending from the edges of the leg members I8. These pins 3| are arranged in vertical spaced relation with respect to each other, so that when the p1ates'29are"posi tioned over certain of these pins, the end section I, when in a position as shown inFigure 1 of the drawings, may be held in various positions of adjustment providing the back" of a chair.

Pins 32 extend laterally from the side rails of the end section I, and may be positioned in the hooks IT, should it be desired to move 'the'back section. of the device to av substantially vertical position.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, 'I have provided a furniture piece, which may be folded into a chair as shown by Figure 1 of the drawings, or folded to provide a table as shown by Figure 5 of the drawings, or extended to the position shown by Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings, providing a cot.

It will also be seen that when the device has been folded as shown by Figure 5, the leg members may be swung inwardly providing a small and compact article for transportation and storage.

I claim:

1. A folding chair and cot embodying a frame including an intermediate section and end' sections pivotally connected to the intermediate section, leg members pivotally connected to the sections, the intermediate section and one of the end sections adapted to swing upwardly providing a chair back, pins extending from certain of the leg members, plates having notches secured to one section and adapted to fit over the pins,

securing the back in an upright position, and a strip of fabric material providing a supporting surface for the frame.

A folding chair and cot, comprising a frame embodying an intermediate section and end sections pivotally connected to said intermediate section, leg members on the sections, rearwardly and downwardl extended arms secured to the pivoted end of one of the end sections, hooks at the free ends of the arms, the intermediate section and the other of said end sections adapted to swing vertically providing a back when the device is folded to provide a chair, pins extending laterally from said other endsection, said-pins adapted to .be extended into the hooks, thereby bracing the intermediate section. innan upright position. l

3. A folding chair and cot embodyinga frame including an intermediate section andend sections pivotally connected to the intermediate section pivoted by members on the end sections, the intermediate section and one of said end sections adapted to swing vertically providing-a back when the device is folded to provide a chair, the free end of the upraised end section adapted to swing downwardly from theintermediate section and fixedly engage legs of the opposite end section providing a brace for supporting theintermediate section in an upright position.
