ERROR CORRECTING DEVICE FOR TYPEWRITERS Filed April 26, 1938 W IIII 5s ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 3, 1939 ERROR CORRECTING DEVICE FOR TYPE-WRITERS Edwin Albert Quinn, New Orleans, La. Application April 26, 1938, Serial No. 204,398
2 Claims. (01. 19'1- -1 81) a This invention relates to typewriter attachments and its general object isto provide what may be termed an error correcting device for a typewriter, that acts-to apply a coating of instant or quick drying white inkor like matter of the same color as the paper being typed upon, to typed matter thereon that is desired to be deleted, so as to cover the same, thereby eliminating erasing thereof.
A further object is to provide an error correcting device that can be readily attached to any This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and speciflcally'pointed out in the appended claims.
30 In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherer in like characters denote like orcorresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
my device applied to a type bar lug.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof. Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device per se. g Figures 4, 5 and 6 collectively illustrate a mistake, before and after being coated by my device, and thence corrected.
Referring to the drawing in detail the letter A indicates a type bar of a typewriter, and B the type lug, to which my device is attached, as best shown in Figure 1. I
Il'he device includes a hollow body I in theform of a sleeve and which'is made from elastic mate rial, such as rubber or the like, into a shape to fit is made, the key of the typed bar carrying the dea Figure 1 is a view partly in section illustrating the lug B, in that it is relatively narrow and has flat sides and ends, with the lower corner portionof the body provided with an opening 2 for the passage of the lug therein, the body being stretched about the lug for gripping engagement 5 therewith, as will be apparent upon inspection'of Figure 1.
Adhesively or otherwise secured to the upper surface of the body i is a pad 3 of absorbent mato be impregnated with some instant or quick drying ink or the like which maybe white or any suitable color to correspond with the color of typewriting paper.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that the correc ing or eoatingde'vice is carried by a type bar of a typewriter, so that when the key of the bar is struck, the impregnated pad will contact the paper and leave a coating of the ink thereon as at 4 in Figures 5 and 6 to cover mistakes or erroneous matter typed, so that the correct or desired matter can be typed upon the coated sur face, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figures 4, 5 and 6 of the drawing.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims. a
What I claim is: 1. An error coating device for a typewriter, 5
' comprising an absorbent pad impregnated with coloring matter, a hollow elastic'body shaped to fit a type bar lug of the typewriter and having an opening therein to receive the lug for disposal 5,
within the body for attaching the latter to said lug and said pad being secured to said body.
EDWIN ALBERT QUINN.
