Description
Sept. 27, 1938. J CHAMPAGNE Y 2,131,023
COVER FOR NECKTIE KNOTS Filed April 23, 1958 In ventor md /gmw Attorneys Patented Sept. 27, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a cover for the knot of a necktie, the general object of the invention being to provide means for removably holding a cover about the knot of a necktie, so that old neckties can be used, as well as new ones, and the cover can be made of different colors, so that the knot part of the tie can be changed in color from the rest of the tie.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 shows a tie and a collar, with the invention in use on the knot of the tie.
Figure 2 is a rear View of the device.
Figure 3 is a front view thereof.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the cover device and portions of the tie, and showing the device on the knot of the tie.
In this drawing, the numeral I indicates the cover part of the device, which has a strip 2 connected with its rear portion, the strip being arranged at the center of the device, with its upper end extending above the top of the cover part, this end being slightly tapered, and a strip 3 of elastic is connected to the tapered end of the part 2 and carries a hook 4. A hook 5 is attached to the lower end of the strip 2. The part I has its upper edges sloping downwardly and outwardly from the part 2 and the side edges of the part I are convergently arranged downwardly. Parts 6 of snap fasteners are connected to one edge of the part I, and the other portions of the snap fasteners are connected to the opposite side edge, as shown at I. In placing this device on the knot A of a necktie B, the upper portion of the part 2 is passed over the top of the knot and then passed downwardly in rear of the knot, with the hook 4 on the elastic 3 connected with the lower portion of the knot at the rear thereof. The hook 5 is connected to the lower portion of the front of the knot and then the snap fastener parts 6 and 1 are 10 placed together after the part I has been passed around the knot. Thus the device acts as a cover for the knot of a necktie to protect the same and also to cover worn or soiled places in the knot, and the cover can be made of contrasting colors to that of the necktie, so as to make the necktie more effective in appearance. When desired, a lining may be provided for the device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A cover for the knot of a necktie consisting of a cover part for passing around the knot, detachable fastening means connecting the side edges of 30 said part together at the rear of the knot, a strip connected with the central part of the cover part and having an upwardly extending portion, a piece of elastic connected with the upper end of said portion, a hook on the upper end of the elastic, a hook on the lower end of the strip, said hooks engaging portions of the knot.
ERASTE J. CHAMPAGNE.
