UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORT H. SMITH, OF BATTLE GREEK, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT lN WINDOW-SCREENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,277, dated February 11, 1879; application filed September 12, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORT H. SMITH, of Bat- I tle Creek, in the county of Calhoun, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Screens and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a windowscreen, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, rcferrin g to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my improved window-screen. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, and Fig. 3 a vertical section, of the same.
A represents the frame, to which the wirecloth B is attached. At the bottom and sides the wire-cloth is secured in any suitable manner; but at the top the wire-cloth is connected to the top bar of the frame by wires 1) b at suitable intervals, and the top bar of the frame is beveled, as shown at it, thus forming a passage, 00, through which flies may pass out from the room.
Each side bar of the frame A has on its outer side two parallel grooves, t i, in which the edges of a piece, 0, of rubber or cloth are inserted, which form an extension for the screen, so as to make it fit windows of different sizes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the frame A, having its top bar beveled at a, the wire-cloth B, and the wires 1), substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of August, 1878.
MORT H. SMITH. [L. s.] WVitnesses J. J. MGOARTHY, F. R. MEOHEM.
