To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ELGIAN Mon- ROE, of Oherryvale, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Window-Screen, of.which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.

the lower ment. I v v The invention consists of certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and specifically sash raised to ventilate the apartpointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front view of a, window-easing with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2is a vertical sectional view of the-same,taken on linemao'f'Fig. 1. Fig. '3 is aho'rizontal sectional view of the window'casing and screen, taken on line y y of Fig. 1. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are enlarged views illustrating details of construction, as will be hereinafter explained. Fig. 7 is a horizontal sectional View showing the'strip on the lower bar of the upper sash.
A represent-stile windowrcasing, B the upper sash, and G the-lower sash. Upon each side of the, windowcasing therevis secured a metallic strip, a, longitudinally bent at b, so as to rest against the casing and extend therefrom at right angles directly in front of the lower sash, O. The extending edges of the strips (4 a are bent upon themselves, and the double stripsd so formed are bent back at an angle toward the adjacent casing,as bestshown within the U-ioops 'i 2', formed by bending the strips 6, f, g, and k, andwhen the parts are in this position they are united by pounding or pressingdown the U-loops The meeting ends of the strips e, f, g, and h are riveted together, allowance for adjustment being made by elongating one of the slots], through which the rivets are inserted.
The screen and its supporting-frame having been formed as described, the double portions d d'are brought into engagement with the double portions d d, as best shown in Figs. 3 and 4,
and the strips a a are secured to the windowcasing A bycleats m m, after which the screen may be moved up and down in the casing,and fastened in position by the springbolt n, which is carried by the lower strip, 72, and as the double portion of the upper and lower strips of the screen-frameproject inward they will approach the inner face of the lower sashframe, and prevent flies or other-insects from entering the room.
To the under side of the lower bar, 2;, of the upper sash-frame I secure a strip of metal, (shown at 20,) which is, out out so as to fit close up against the glass of the lower sash, being secured to the bar 22 by screws that pass through elongated slots 11 o, so that it can be adjusted to or from the said glass of the sash G.
Having thus fhlly described my invention, what I claim as new, Letters Patent, is-' j I 1. In a window-screen, the combination, with thewerticalstrips a, bent back'in oppoand desire to secure by site directions along their adjacent longituditheir adjacent longitudinal edges, the said bent portions resting behind the bent portions of the strips a, substantially as set forth.
2. In a window-screen, the combination, with the strips a, bent back in opposite directions along their adjacent longitudinal edges, of the-scree'n-frame formed of strips, the outer edges of each pair each other, the bent portions of the side strips nal edges, of the screen-frame, the side strips of which are bent toward each other along of which are bent toward resting behind the bent portions of the strips a, substantially as set forth.
3.- In a window screen, the combination, with the strips a, bent double along their outor edges, the doubled portions being bent'back IOO to form ways, of the screen-frame having the 'v' v, and screws passed through said slots into outer edges of the side strip's'bent double, and the underside of the lower rail of the upper then bent toward each other to rest behind the sash, substantially as set forth. bent portionsof the strips a, substantially as W'ILLIAM ELGIAN MONROE. 5 set forth.
