Application December 31, 1935, Serial No. 57,044
3 Claims.
This. invention relates to anchoring means for window shades and the like, and has for one of its objects the production of a simple and eiiicient means for use in connection with the conventional window shade bracket whereby the winding stem of the curtain shade roller may be firmly anchored against accidental displacement from the conventional shade roller bracket.
A further object of this invention is the pro- 1 duction of a simple and efficient anchoring strip which may be slipped over the winding stemv of the conventional shade roller and may then be fastened to the window frame after the winding stem has been inserted in the supporting bracket to firmly hold the winding stem against becoming accidentally dislodged from the bracket.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughoutthe following specification and claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a window frame showing the conventional shade roller supporting bracket of the type to receive the winding stem and illustrating my improved 5' anchoring means in position;
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the anchoring means or strip and securing tack to be used therewith;
Figure 3 is a vertical section taken. on line 3--3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a front elevation showing a portion of a window frame and conventional shade roller bracket and shade roller and illustrating in conjunction therewith a modified form of my an- 5 choring means wherein the anchoring means is formed of a wire strand;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the anchoring means shown in Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a perspective view illustrating a 40 modified form of anchoring means especially designed for use in connection with shade roller brackets of the conventional type which are secured to the front face of a window frame.
By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that 45 A designates the conventional window frame or window trim of the type wherein the shade roller supporting brackets are mounted between the window stops. In Figure 1 there is illustrated a shade roller bracket B of the conventional type 50 which is adapted to receive the winding stem C of the shade roller D. It is not desired to limit this invention to any particular type of bracket used for this purpose, since any type of slotted bracket for receiving the conventional winding 55 stem of the shade roller may be employed.
slot H is adapted to extend the winding stem C of the roller D. The strip I0 is preferably provided with an angularly bent shank l2 and an offset anchoring tongue l3 at its lower end, the
upper end of the strip l0 and the anchoring tongue l3 extending in substantially the same 15 plane but being in offset relation to each other and connected to the angular shank l2. The tongue I3 is provided with an aperture l4 through which is adapted to extend the headed thumb tack ii for anchoring the tongue I3 in firm engagement,
with one of the stops of the window frame, as shown in Figure '1.
It should be understood that the winding stem C of the shade roller D is extended through the aperture ll of the anchoring strip I 0 and the winding stem C is then placed within the bracket B. The headed thumb tack I5 is then passed through the aperture I 4 and into the window frame, as shown in Figure 1 thereby anchoring the anchoring strip ID in position and prevent- 3O ing the winding stem C of the roller D fromaccidentally jumping out of engagement with the supporting bracket.
It is common knowledge that when a shade is drawn downand it is necessary to again raise the shade, the shade is slightly drawn downwardly and'allowed to automatically wind itself up upon its supporting roller. Very often the shade spring is wound too tightly with the result that the shade will slip from the operators 40 hand and will snap upwardly, thereby winding the shade around the roller with such force as to dislodge the winding stem from itssupporting bracket, the shade consequently dropping out of position. It should be understood that the present anchoring means is especially adapted to retain the shade roller in position and preventthe roller from being accidentally dislodged while hanging curtains, cleaning and raising the windows, and thelike.
A very simple and efficient anchoring means has been produced which may be easily applied to the conventional type of shade roller and may, be used in conjunction with a conventional type of shade roller supporting bracket, the anchoring means being merely attached by slipping the same over the winding stem of the shade roller and then anchoring the anchoring means in position upon the window or other supporting frame it being noted that the anchoring means is a' separate and distinct element from the roller supporting bracket and shade roller.
In Figures 4 and 5 a modified form of the invention is illustrated wherein the anchoring means is used inthe same manner as that described with respect to Figure 1, with the ex- 'ception that the anchoring means consists of a wire structure I6 having a loop ll formed at its upper end, a single extension I8 terminating in a flattened anchoring tongue I9 which is apertured as at 2i! to permit a thumb tack 2| to be inserted for anchoring the'ancho-ring means I6 in position upon the window frame or trim E.
It should be understood that the anchoring means may be varied in its construction without departing from thespirit of the invention and Figurese and 5 as will be' noted, illustrate one typical modified form. I
-In Figure 6 there is shown a further modified form'of theinventionillustrating the type of anchoring means which may be employed for use in connection with the conventional shade roller supporting bracket which is commonly used upon 7 the outer face ofa window frame or window trim, as indicated by theletterT'. In Figure 6, the con-' ventional shade roller supporting bracket is indicated by the numeral 22 and is adapted to receive thewinding'stm. 23 of the conventional shade roller. This stemis shown broken fo'rgthe purpose of eliminating the necessity of showing the complete roller, An anchoring strip 24 is used 7 inc'onjunction with the bracket 22 and is provided vionsly described.
, witl'r a rectangular slot :25 through which the winding stem 23 extends;
24 intermediate its ends is bent laterally, as at 26, V

and a fastener passed through the perforation for securing said tongue flat against the window frame below the bracket out of contact therewith.

roller supporting bracket, said device comprising an elongated strip havingan opening in its upper portion adapted to receive the winding stem of the roller, the lower portion of said strip being adapted to be secured against a window frame below the bracket and being disposed in offset relation to the upper portionofthe strip whereby the upper portion will bespaced forwardly from the bracket in overlying relation thereto when the lower portion is'secured against a window frame.
3. An anchoring device for a shade roller comprising an elongated body formed from a strand of Wire having one end portion bent to form a loop toreceive the winding stem of a roller and a shank depending from the loop, said shank'being bent rearwardly intermediate its length and having its lower portion flattened and bent tojform a foot depending from the intermediate portiongin I rearward offset relation to the upper portion'and adapted to be secured against a window frame belowa roller supporting bracket.
