My invention relates to improvements in sack holders for use particularly in holding sacks in open condition for filling in the field, or elsewhere, as the case may be.

The principal object of my invention is to provide an improved light weight, readily portable, and inexpensive device of this character for holding sacks of different sizes in suspended open position and embodying means for holding the 19 month of the sack open said means being manipulative to release a portion of the edges of the mouth of a sack while at the same time holding another portion suspended in stretched out condition so that the released portion can be easily l5 and conveniently sewed, or otherwise secured,

to the portion being held.

Another object is to provide a device of the character and for the purposes above set forth embodying a base section and a sack clamping and suspending section readily detachable from the base section and attachable to the wall of a barn or warehouse for filling sacks therein.

To the accomplishment of the foregoing, and subordinate objects presently appearing, a pre- 2 ferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing and described and defined in the following description and claims, respectively.

base section I of my improved sack support comprises a frame-like structure formed of a single piece of flat bar-like metal bent upon itself to provide a substantially U-shaped bottom part 2 40 designed to lie fiat upon the ground or fioor and terminating at its ends in a pair of angularly disposed uprights 3 spaced apart laterally.

At the upper ends of the uprights 3 is a clamping section 4 comprising a rectangular plate 5 45 adapted to be secured at its ends to said ends of the uprights 3, and a pair of brackets 6 extending from the opposite ends of the plate 5, respectively, and including clamping arms 1 extending from the lower edge of the plate 5 horizontally over the bottom part 2 and each terminating in a right angularly related clamping arm 8 bolted to the plate 5 as at 9 the bolts extending through said ends of the uprights 3 and having nuts l threaded thereon. A clamping bail H is piv- 55 otally mounted at its ends on the plate for vertical swinging movement in a pair of bearing members l2 bolted as at l3 to the plate 5 adjacent the arms 8, respectively. The bail H com prises a substantially U-shaped portion 14 adapted to overlie the clamping arms 1 for cooperat- 5 ing clamping action therewith and right angularly disposed ends 15 designed for similar cooperation with the clamping arms 8 and terminating in inturned ends I6 journaled in the bearing members l2. The ball II is provided along its sides with a plurality of sharp pins ll, preferably a pair on each side, and the clamping arms 1 with correspondingly located apertures l8 for receiving said pins [1. The ends 15 of the bail l are each provided with a single pin l9 adja- 15 cent the juncture of said arms with the sides of the bail and designed to enter an aperture 2|] in the adjacent clamping arm 8 located near the juncture of the arm 8 with its arm 1.

In the use of my invention, the bail ll having been swung upwardly to releasing position a portion of the edge of the sack is stretched across the clamping bars 8 over the apertures therein and the bail ll lowered into a position in which the pins Hi just pierce said edge portion sufiiciently to hold said portion against displacement.

In this connection it is to be noted that the construction of the bail H and the clamping arms 1 and 8, together with the location of the pins l1 and I9 and apertures l8 and 20 is such that the pins I9 may be entered into the apertures 2D to hold said portion of the sack before the pins I! enter the apertures IS in the clamping arms I. The edge of the sack is next stretched over the clamping arms 1 and the bail II fully lowered into clamping position relative to the arms I, the pins I! enter in the apertures l8 and securely holding the mouth of the sack open in substantially rectangular shape. By using selected pins I1 and apertures l8 sacks of diiferent sizes may be clamped as described and as will be obvious. When the sack is filled the bail II is partially elevated sufliciently to release the edges of the sack from the clamping arms 1 and sides of said ball and without withdrawing the 5 pins l9 from the apertures 20. In this position of the parts the free edge of the sack may be conveniently positioned against the edge portion held by the pins IQ for sewing up or otherwise r closing the mouth of the sack.

By removing the nuts ID the clamping section may be detached from the base section I and bolted to the wall of a barn or Warehouse or any other desired support either by means of the bolts 9 or by means of bolts inserted in bolt holes 2| provided in the plate 5.

Although certain details of construction have been described in connection with a preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that the present disclosure is illustrative rather than restrictive and that right is herein reserved to modifications of details falling within the scope of the claims appended hereto.

What I claim is:

1. In a device of the character described, a base section comprising a U-shaped base having a pair of legs, a pair of spaced apart uprights connected to said legs, and a clamping section secured to said uprights and comprising a pair of brackets, respectively, each including a horizontally disposed arm overlying the corresponding leg of the base and a vertically disposed end arm parallel to the corresponding upright, a bail pivotally mounted intermediate the upright arms and comprising side arms adapted to be swung into clamping relation to said horizontal arms, and right angled end arms adapted to be swung into clamping relation to said upright arms, said bracket arms and bail arms being provided with apertures and pins, respectively, disposed for mating relation.

2. In a device of the character described, a

clamping section adapted to be secured to a support and comprising a pair of brackets, respectively, each including a horizontally disposed arm and a. vertically disposed end arm, a bail pivotally mounted intermediate the vertical arms and comprising side arms adapted to be swung into clamping relation to said horizontal arms, and right angled end arms adapted to be swung into clamping relation to said vertical arms, the horizontal bracket arms and the bail side arms being provided with a plurality of apertures and pins, respectively, disposed for mating relation, and related end arms of the brackets and bail being provided with a single aperture and pin, respectively, disposed in mating relation adjacent the juncture of said end arms with the horizontal bracket arms and bail side arms.

3. In a device of the character described, a clamping section adapted to be removably mounted upon a suitable support and comprising cooperating clamping frames one swingableinto and out of clamping relation, each frame comprising right angled portions forming in the clamping position of the frames horizontally and vertically clamping jaws, and said jaws being provided with apertures and pins, respectively, disposed for mating relation.
