VMy invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a Combination Brush and particularly the method of attaching the handle to the brush and to the parts used therewith.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this kind so arranged and constructed that the brush may be very easily attached and detached to leave the device in form and use either as a drying member, or as a scraping member.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this class which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture, durable, and highly eicient in use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, and in which,

As shown in the drawing, the invention comprises a plate 9 which is preferably formed from metal and which is angularly-turned to provide the inclined portion I0 which serves as a scraper.

adjacent one edge, by means of the metallic L- shaped strip Il and the bolts I2, is a flexible strip I3 of rubber or other suitable material which would serve as a squeegee. Securely fastened to the plate 9, centrally thereof, is the U-shaped clip to provide the upstanding spaced lugs I 4 and I5, between which is pivotally mounted on the pin I6 the handle-receiving channelshaped member Il. This member is connected by the braces I8 and I9 pivotally to the brackets 20 and 2|, respectively. which are secured to the plate 9. Pins 22 and 23 extend through the lugs I4 and I5 and serve as abutment members for limiting the rocking of the handle-receiving portion I'I on its pivot I6. A suitable handle 24 may be inserted in the handle-receiving portion.

Mounted on the under side of the clamping strip I I are fastening strips 25 which are spaced from the strip II by the spacing blocks 25. Se-

' cured on the under face of the portion I0 is a plate 21 having the angularly-turned oiset tongue-forming portion 28. The brush used with the device is provided with the back 29, on one edge of which is mounted the plate 30 having its end doubled-over to provide the hook 3| which is adapted to receive the angularly-turned tongue 28. Mounted on the upper surface of the back 29 are also a pair of hooks 32 which serve to engage the strips 25. A swingably mounted keeper 33 is mounted on the forward face of the plate 30 so as to swing into position for preventing a disengagement of the tongue 28 from the hook 3l and so as to prevent a disengagement of the hooks 32 from the plates or strips 25.

When the brush element is hooked into position and the keeper 33 turned to the position shown in Fig. 3, these parts will be securely locked together. In order to remove the brush it is but necessary to rock the keeper 33 downwardly to clear the member 28 whereupon the brush may be slid outwardly from its supported position. When the brush is so mounted it may be used for the general purposes of a brush or broom, either for sweeping or cleaning purposes.

When the brush is removed the plate I0 may be used as a scraping element and the iiexible strip I3 may be used as a squeegee or drying element.

The pivotal mounting of the handle as described is such as to permit the extension of the handle at the proper angle of inclination so that the device may be used for the various purposes Y which have been referred to.

While I have illustrated and described the invention in its preferred form and type of construction, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details shown but expressly state that such variations and modifications therein may be made as come within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A device of the class described, comprising: a plate; a pair of fastening plates mounted on one side of said plate at opposite ends thereof and in spaced relation thereto; a supporting body; a pair of spaced hooks mounted on said body, each engageable with one of said fastening plates; an additional hook mounted on one edge of said body and faced outwardly of the edge, said pair of spaced hooks being faced in the same direction; an engagement plate carried by and spaced from said first mentioned plate and engageable at one of its edges with said last mentioned hook simultaneously with the engagement of said pair of spaced hooks with said fastening plates; and a keeper mounted on said back and swingable into position for engaging said engagement member and locking said hook in engagement therewith and preventing disengagement of said first mentioned hooks from said fastening strips.
