Description
T. H. CHIN TONGUE SGRAFER Dec. 31, 1929.
Filed Feb. 16, 1929 3mm 72m Hung 6 71 in Patented Dec. 31, 1929 PATENT OFFICE TOM HUNG CHIN, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR G3? ONE-FOURTH TO PHILIP BREVV- TON, OF Ii'IOBILE, ALABAMA TONGUE SCRAPER Application filed February 16, 1929. Serial No. 340,420.
This invention relates to the class of toilet articles and pertains particularly to a device for scraping the tongue to clean the same.
The primary object of this invention is to 5 provide a device which may be readily made a part of a tooth brush structure so that it will be convenient for use when cleaning the teeth.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tongue scraping or cleaning device ad justably mounted upon a handle, such for example as a tooth brush handle so that it may be shifted thereon for convenience in using and when it is to be put away, particu larly where the handle is provided with an aperture for the reception of a supporting hook or nail.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accom- 29 panying drawing forming a part, of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing, but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient fea tures of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing 30 Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the device embodying this invention and a supporting handle therefor;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the top face of the handle and scraper;
Figure 3 is a view of the under face of the handle;
Figure 4 is a sectional view takenlongitudinally of the end of the handle to which the scraper is attached, showing the same in section;
Figure 5 is a face view of the scraper blade;
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of a modified form of the scraper.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, it will be seen in Figures 1 to 5 that the tongue scraper embodying the present invention has been shown as applied to the end of a tooth brush handle, the handle being indicated generally by the numeral 1. The scraper device, indicated generally by the numeral 2, comprises an elongated blade 3 preferably constructed of a non-corroding metal, of longitudinally arcuate formation and having the lower edge thereof arched inwardly as indicated at d, to conform to thesurface contour of the tongue, the opposite longitudinal edge of the scraper body has extending at right angles therefrom and in termediate the ends of the body the tab 5, which is centrally apertured, as indicated at 6 3 and which has extended upwardly from the edge of the aperture the tongues 7.
The handle 1, in association with which the tongue scraper may be used is provided with a transverse slot 8 cut inwardly from the end thereof and with an aperture 9 extending therethrough at right angles to the slot, to facilitate the hanging up of the article. This slot 8 receives the tab 5, and the opening therethrouqh is brought into align-7o ment with the aperture 9 of the handle, the tongues 7 then being bent outwardly to the positions shown, to bear against the wall of the handle aperture 9 to prevent removal of the tab and also to permit of its being 1'0-75 tated so that the scraper blade 3 may be arranged across the end of the handle for use and swung to one side after using to permit the handle aperture 9 to receive a supporting hook or nail. so
In Figure 6 th re is shown a slight niodi iication of the device shown in Figures 1 to 5, this modified form comprising a sleeve portion 10, designed to receive in the opening 11 thereof the end of a tooth brush handle or similar holder. The other end of this sleeve has formed integral therewith the transversely extending scraper body 12, the back face of which is of convex form while the lower edge which is slightly concaved, tapers to the round pointed ends 13 of the body.
This attachment may be employed for scraping the surface of the tongue or the roof of the mouth, as desired, and by providing the recess 11 in the body or sleeve 10 it may be transferred from one brush to another as the same are used and discarded.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that the tongue scraper herein described, may be conveniently employed for the performance of thercleaning operation for which it is constructed and when swivelly mounted upon a handle, such for example, as the handle of a tooth brush, it may be ad- 5 justed to any desired position both for use and to permit 01' the brush bemg hung up in the usual manner.
Having described my invention, What I claim is 1. A tongue scraper, comprising a handle member, a scraping blade, and an attaching tab extending from said blade and secured in said handle, said handle and tab having an aperture formed therethrough, said tab being rotatably secured in the handle to permit the adjustment of the blade thereon.
2. A tongue scraper, comprising a handle member, a scraping blade, an attaching tab extending from said blade and secured in said handle, said handle and tab having an aperture formed therethrough, and tongue members projecting from the scraping blade tab at the edge of the opening therethrough designed to engage the Wall of the opening through the handle to pivotally maintain the tab in engagement With the handle.
8. In a tongue scraper, a handle, an elongated scraping plate of convex contour having one edge of slightly arcuate formation,
.30 and means at the opposite edge and interm diate the ends of the plates pivotally attaching the same to an end of the handle.
4. A tongue scraper, comprising a handle member, an elongated scraping plate of convex contour and having the Working edge of slightly arcuate formation, and means for connecting said plate intermediate its ends and at the opposite edge, to the handle Whereby the plate may be maintained extending transversely of the handle body.
5.. A tongue scraper, comprising a handle member, an elongated scraping plate, an attaching tab projecting laterally from the plate at one edge and intermediate the ends thereof, said handle being slotted to receive the tab, and means for pivotally attaching the tab to the handle.
6. A tongue scraper, comprising a handle member, an elongated scraping plate, an attachinq' tab projecting laterally from the plate at one edge and intermediate the ends thereof, said handle being slotted to receive the tab, and means for pivotally attaching the tab to the handle, said handle and said tab being apertured to facilitate hanging the article, the aperture of the tab extending through the attaching means.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
TOM HONG CHIN.
