Description
J. G. MINER. Street Lamp-Post.-
No. 208,326. Patented Sept. 24,1878.
me W e & M w 1 n e N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTMOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JACOB G. MINER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN STREET-LAMP POSTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,326, dated September 24, 1878; application filed February 9, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB G. MINER, of the city of New York, and county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Street-Lamp Posts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved lamp-post when erected. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of the separated sections of my improved lamp-post; and Fig. 3 represents a top view of the horizontal collar, by means of which the sections of the lamp-post are connected with the sections of the gas-pipe.
Similar letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
My invention relates to improvements in street-lamp posts; and consists, first, in makin g such posts in sections coupled together by screw-threaded gas-pipe couplings.
My invention further consists in the employment, in connection with the lamp-post sections, of sectional gaspipes arranged therein and connected thereto, which pipes are connected by screw-couplings, thus uniting the separate sections of the lamp-post together, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, A A represent sections of a lamp-post, provided with swells or hollow protuberances at their lower ends, each of which fits over the upper end of the section of the 1a1np-post next below it, the sections of the lamp-post being united by a screw-threaded connection, which I will now proceed to describe.
B B represent separate sections or portions of a gas-pipe, situated within the hollow sections A A of the lamp-post, and connected thereto by a collar (represented in Fig. 3) attached to the sections A A, constituting the lamp-post, and to the sections B B, forming the gaspipe when united together. This collar may be attached to the sections A A of the lamp-post and to the sections B B of the gaspipe by casting, or in any other well-known and convenient manner.
The lower end of each section A of the lamppost is provided with a hollow swell or protuberance, E, which fits snugly over the upper end of the section immediately below it.
The lower end of each separate section or portion B of the gas-pipe is provided with a male screw, which is made to engage with the threads of a female screw in the upper end of each section B of the gas-pipe.
By this construction the sections can readily be separated or united together, all soldering of the joints is obviated, and if one or more sections are injured, they can readily be replaced by others.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A lamp-post made in sections coupled together by screw-threaded gas-pipeconnections, as herein specified.
2. The combination, with the sections A A of a lamp-post, of the sections B B of the gaspipe, arranged therein, and provided with the screw-couplings O at their ends, as herein specified.
JACOB G. MINER.
