2 Claims.
This invention relates to tension devices for loom shuttles and has for an object to provide anovel spring device for controlling the delivery of filling from the bobbin so that ballooning and breakage will be positively prevented.
A further object is to provide a tension device formed of a single leaf spring which is secured at one end to one of the side walls of the bobbin chamber of the shuttle and which is provided with a convex surface which contacts with the bobbin at a point above the horizontal plane passing axially through the bobbin so that the filling or yarn passes between the convex surface of the bobbin and the convex surface of the leaf spring as it is unwound from the bobbin and is yieldably held by the leaf spring against swiveling or ballooning and consequent breakage.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a shuttle and bobbin showing the tensioning device constructed in ac- 30 cordance with the invention in applied position to control delivery of the filling.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 showing the tensioning device in side elevation.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1 and showing diagrammatically two positions of the filler as it is being unwound from the bobbin.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the 40 tensioning device.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, In designates a shuttle and H designates a bobbin both of conventional con- 5 struction.
For controlling the delivery of the yarn or filling [2 from the bobbin a tensioning device is provided the same comprising a substantially triangular leaf spring l3 which is curved trans- 50 versely from longitudinal edge to longitudinal edge to provide a convex extremity. The leaf spring is substantially fiat at the wide end and is bent at a slight angle with respect to the convex portion of the spring to provide an attaching 55 tab I5 which may be secured by screws I6 to the side wall ll of the bobbin chamber inthe shuttle.
The leaf spring l3 inclines from its point of attachment in the direction of the bobbin, and the convex surface of the free end thereof contacts with the bobbin at a point above the horizontal plane passing axially through the bobbin. The filling, while being spirally unwound from the bobbin, passes between the convex surfaces of the bobbin and of the spring, as shown diagrammatically in Figure 3, during each revolution of the filling around the bobbin as an axis and is thus momentarily yieldably confined against the bobbin once during each revolution so that swiveling of the filling during delivery will be positively prevented and thus eliminate breakage of the filling and looping of the filling either above or below the shuttle as it comes to rest in the shuttle box.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation,
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a bobbin and a shuttle, of a leaf spring secured at one end to one of the side walls of the bobbin chamber of the shuttle, said spring inclining from its point. of attachment in the direction of the bobbin, the free end of the spring having a convex surface disposed in contact with the bobbin at a point above the horizontal plane passing axially through the bobbin, the filling being adapted to pass between the convex surfaces of the bobbin and of the spring member once during each spiral unwinding of the filling from the bobbin and be yieldably momentarily tensioned.
2. The combination with a shuttle and a bobbin, of a leaf spring of substantially triangular contour having one end fiat and forming an attaching tab, means securing the tab to one of the side walls of the bobbin chamber of the shuttle, the leaf spring being bowed transversely from longitudinal edge to longitudinal edge to provide a convex free end, the leaf spring inclining from the attaching tab in the direction of the bobbin, the convex surface of the free end of the leaf spring contacting with the bobbin at a point above the horizontal plane passing axially through the bobbin, whereby the filling passes between the convex surfaces of the bobbin and free end of the leaf spring and is tensioned momentarily once during each spiral revolution as it is unwound from the bobbin.
