' 4 Claims. (01.12043) This invention relates to a base for ink wells, with the bottom wall 5. Carried on the wall 6 lamps, telephones and the like and more parand extending outwardly and downwardly ticularly pertains to a cushion or pad bearing therefrom is a rim 1 having an inturned martherefore. ginal flange 8 on its lower edge which extends It has heretofore been the practice in forming toward the outer margin of the flange 4 and 5 cushioned bearing faces for the bases of ink terminates in spaced relation thereto on a plane wells and other devices, such as lamps, teleslightly beneath the plane of the under side of phones, and the like, to equip such base with a the flange 4. As here shown the rim 1 is held cushion the margin of which is exposed to view in place on the-wall 6 by a cap 9 having screw 10 around the rim of the base, thus materially dethreads l0 screwed into engagement with the 10 tracting from the appearance of the latter. The inner; periphery of the wall 6; the cap 9 being present invention contemplates the provision of formed with a flange H arranged to overlie a a demountable resilient pad for the under side flange I2 on the upper edge of the rim 1 to clamp of a base or pedestal the margin of which will the flange I2 in relation to the upper margin of be concealed under a rim on the base in such the wall 6. 15 fashion as to give the appearance of the base A pad B formed of resilient sheet material resting on such rim. such as rubber or rubber composition is formed A particular object of the invention is to proto extend over the under side of the bottom vide a base pad having the desirable feature of wall 5 and is provided with a channel M of recconcealment as above pointed out which is so tangular cross section adapted to receive the 20 formed in conjunction with the base as to be flange 4 in frictional engagement therewith. The' readily assembled on the latter and whereby the pad B is formed of such thickness that when pad may be easily removed and replaced. applied its underside will protrude slightly be- Another object is to provide a base with a low the lower face of the flange 8 on the rim 1 bottom facing of sheet resilient material, such and formed on the margin of the pad B is a 25 as rubber or rubber composition, embodying a lip I5 which is extend-ed upwardly over the inner construction whereby the facing may be aflixed margin of the flange 8 to overlie the latter as to the base by frictional engagement therewith particularly shown in Fig. 2, thus concealing the and the edge of the facing shielded. margin of the pad.
With the foregoing objects in view together The under side of the pad is formed with ribs 30 with such other objects and advantages as may I6 for frictional engagement with the surface subsequently appear the invention resides in the on which the base is supported. parts and in the combination, construction and The pad B being resilient and flexible is arrangement of parts hereinafter described and adapted to be readily applied to the base A which claimed, and illustrated by way of example in is effected by pressing the marginal portion of 35 the accompanying drawing in which: the pad through the space between the flanges Fig. 1 is a view of an ink well as seen in side 4 and 8 and forcing the flange 4 into engageelevation showing the invention as applied: ment with the channel M which latter is formed Fig. 2 is a detail in section taken on the line of a cross section slightly less in width than 2-2 of Fig. 1: that of the flange 4 so as to require slight ex- 40 Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the base with panding of the channel M to receive the flange portions broken away. 4 and whereby the side walls of the channel [4 Referring to the drawing more specifically, A will be placed under tension and will securely indicates generally a base which is here shown grip the side walls of the flange 4.
