UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM HAAS, OF WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOP-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,215, dated May 28, 1878 application filed April 23, 1878. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I, WILLIAM HAAs, of Walla Walla, in the county of Walla Walla, Washington Territory, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved device, shown in positionfor use. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for attachment to the side of a tub, pail, or bucket, and which shall be so constructed as to enable the mop to be easily, quickly, and thoroughly wrung out without itsbeing necessary to wet or soil the hands by touching it.
The invention consists in the combination of the bent bar, the set-screws, the spiral spring, the spring-lever, and its catch-hook with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
'A is a bar of iron or other suitable material, bent at its center into V form, and having its arms at a little distance from its angle bent over so as to be parallel, or nearly so, with the said angular central part, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to pass down the inner side of a pail, tub, or bucket, While the said angular part passes down upon the outer side of said pail, tub, or bucket, and has a set-screw, B, passed through it, the forward end of which rests against the outer surface of the said pail, tub, or bucket, to fasten the said device securely in place. The end parts of the bar A are bent inward at right angles, and to their ends are attached the ends of a spiral spring, 0. To one of the ends of the bar A is s'wiveled the end of a lever, D, made of spring-wire, and of such a length as to reach to and beyond the end of the other arm of the said bar A, where it is held in place detachably by a hook or other suitable catch, E, attached to the end of the said bar.
The free end of the spring-lever D extends upward, and is so formed as to serve as a con venient handle for operating the said lever.
In using the device it is attached to the side of a tub, pail, or bucket, in the manner hereinbefore described. The lever D is then disengaged from its catch-hook E, and is swung outward. The end of the mop is then placed against the coil-spring O, and is clamped against said spring by the spring-lever D, which is swung inward and secured to the hook E. The mop'handle is then turned to twist the mop and wring out the water. When the mop has been sufficiently wrung the springlever D is again released, freeing the-mop.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The combination of the bent bar A, the setscrew B, the spiral spring 0, the spring-lever D, and its catch-hook E with each other, sub" stantially as herein shown and described.
' WILLIAM HAAS. Witnesses: ALEXANDER S. DORMAN,
HARRISON ROGERS.
