IMPROVEMENT IN MOP-WRINGERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,501, dated May 7, 1878 applica-tion filed January 25. 1878. I

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY RUssELL, of New Richmond, in the county of St. Oroix and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of my improved mop-wringer, and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section thereof. This invention relates to improvements in mop-wringers.

It consists of a squeezer provided with a dish-shaped presser-surface and with a notch, the one to accommodate the head and the other the handle of the mop; secondly, of the combination, with said squeezer, of an auxiliary bottom.

In the annexed drawings, A marks an upright receptacle, in every particular constructed after the manner of the one shown in my Letters Patent dated July 9, 1867, N 0. 66,639. B is a follower or plunger, hung to a hand-lever, 0, provided with trunnion-shaped projections or fulcrum c c, which enter any two opposite notches in the parallel racks D D, secured to the backboard of the receptacle A, when the said lever is operated, as hereinafter set forth. The lower end of the follower B is beveled or inclined upwardly and outwardly from a point about equidistant from its sides, at which point it is pivoted or connected to a cross-head or squeezer, E, by a flexible or yielding connection, 0, to permit of the squeezer adapting itself to unequal thicknesses, into which the strands of the mop may arrange themselves when the mop is inserted into the receptacle Ato be wrung or squeezed. The squeezer E is provided upon its lower side with a groove or concavity, f, extending in the direction of its length, to enable it to grasp or fit down over the mop and its head. A notch, f, is provided in the said squeezer downwardly, when the operation of for the reception of the handle of the mop I when the squeezer is pressed down.

F is a lower bar, which may be used or not, as desired. The upper side of said bar is provided with a groove or concavity, g, to aid the squeezer in compressing thelmop in squeezing or wringing the same.

The water expressed or 'wrung from the mop will escape down through openings or passages h h to the inclined bottom H, whence it will pass off through an opening, 1', into a bucket or other vessel placed below and to one side of the bottom H, and upon an extension, j, of the lower board I of the receptacle A.

The handle of the mop, when placed in the mop-apartment of the receptacle A, as.

seen in Fig. 2, to be operated upon by the plunger or squeezer, projects through a vertical slot, 70, in the front part of the receptacle A. Upon the upper ends of the sides of the receptacle A are outwardly-projecting staples l 1, or other suitable means, upon which to hang the follower by its handle or lever O when not in use, the said lever being provided with a headed projection or hook, m, to catch over said staples.

To operate the wringer when desired, insert the mop into the receptacle A, with its handle projecting through the slot k; then place the squeezer in upon the mop, and the fulcrum c of the lever G into the desired notchesof the rack D, and force the said lever wringing the mop will be commenced.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut is- 1: As an improvement in mop-wringers, the .squeezer provided with a dish-shaped pressersurface and with a notch, the one to accommodate the head and the other the handle of the mop, substantially'as and for the purpose set forth. 7

2. The combination, with the dish-shaped or recessed squeezer, of the bar F, substantially as set forth.
