IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDER'S.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,408, dated March 19, 1878; application filed August 20, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W.- GRAFFLIN, Jr., of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window Sash Holders, which is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing.

The object of my invention is to furnish a cheap and convenient holder or support applicable to all kinds and sizes of windowsash.

The invention consists in providing the sashholder case, which is mortised in the sash, with an adjustable frame having oblique slots for the journals of the roller, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a view of awindow-sash broken away to show the application of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side view of a sashholder.

Referring to the drawing, A represents the sash; B, the improved holder, attached on one side; 0, two friction-rollers, of ordinary construction, attached on the opposite side.

In the present example, rubber is employed for the friction-rollers 0, though rollers of other material will serve the purpose herein set forth, when used in the position relative to the holder here shown.

The cases containing the friction-rollers 0 are mortised into the sash on the edge-one roller near the top, and the other near the bottom-while the holder is mortised in like manner on the opposite side, and midway between top and bottom of sash. \Vhen thus relatively placed, the sash can be raised and lowered readily, as the holder constitutes a central bearing on one side, by which a slight lateral or oscillating movement is permitted to the sash, enabling it to pass over any little unevenness or irregularity in the window-frame guides.

While these friction-rollers are considered an advantage in the movement of the sash, and as anti-rattlers, they are not essential to the operation of my improved holder.

The case of the holder B is of light casting, and has a long oblique slot, at, through both sides. One edge of each slot has notches or serrations b. An adjustable roller-frame, c, has a tooth or nib, d, on each side, corresponding in shape to the notches mentioned, and also a short oblique slot, 0, which aflords a bearing for the journals of the rubber roller f. The adjustable frame, carrying the roller, is placed in the position desired in the slot a, so as to project the roller f more or less beyond the case, according as the sash may happen to fit loose or tight; and when adjusted to suit. a certain window, the roller-frame is retained in the same position by the tooth 01 engaging with the appropriate notch 12.

Thus, it will beseen, the frame carrying the roller, and the roller itself, of my improved holder are both adjustable, whereby the holder can be set to fit either tight or loose playing window-sashes.

Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved sash-holder having the adjustable frame herein described, with oblique slots 6 for the journals of the rubber roller f, as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
