O. M. WEBSTER. Show-Bracket for Drawers and Boxes.
No. 201,073. Patented March 5,1878.
N. FElElh, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHlNGTON, D c
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
CHARLES M. WEBSTER, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO NELSON LYON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-BRACKETS FOR DRAWERS AND BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,07 3, dated March 5, 1878 application filed October 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES M. WEBsTER, of the city and county of Albany, State of New York, have invented an Improved Show- Bracket for Exposing Articles of Merchandise from the Outside of Boxes and Drawers, which invention is fully described in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a sectionalelevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken at line No. 1 in Fig. 2.
The object of my invention is to furnish a device by which to connect and hold to a box or drawer ashoe, hat, hose, or any other article of merchandise. which it may be desirable to expose to view from the box or drawer containin g a stock of the articles, while at the same time the device will operate as a handle, by which the box or drawer may be pulled out or pushed back in place, as desired.
In the drawings,- A represents the body of the device, which is made of metal and in the form of a handle, as shown, with lugs a 61/, provided with holes 0, for receiving screws, rivets, or nails for attachment to the box or drawer.
If desired, lug a may be dispensed with, and lug a be made broader and longer, and provided with two or more screw-holes for attachment, when the said body or handle would operate substantially the same and for the purpose intended.
In one end of the handle are provided slots 0 e, or a single .slot aggregating the said two, for receiving the coils or. bows d of the springclamp s. The said spring-clamp is made of steel or brass wire, bent in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or an equivalent form, which will include and produce the finger-piece 1,
for convenience for raising the clamp s from contact with the handle A, the binding part2 bearing on the handle, coil, or bow 3, for securin g an elastic pressure of the binding on the body A, and the attaching-arms 4, for securing the clamp to the handle or body A. Made solid with the handle A, and from its lower side, are two series of binding-lips, ac and as, one on each side, and in horizontal range with the attaching-arms 4, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The said binding-lips occur alternately on each side of the arm they are to hold. The said attaching-arms are placed each between the lips of its own series, when the said lips are turned over the said arms from position shown in dotted lines to that of full lines, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to bind on said arms and hold them close to the lower side of the handle A in a firm manner.
This improved device, when attached to a box or drawer,.will at once operate as a handle for pulling out the same and hold a shoe, hat, hose, or other article intended to be displayed as a sample of the article within, and at the same time hold the article off at a short distance from the box or drawer.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with handle A, provided with means, substantially as described, for attachment to a box or'drawer, and having slots 6, of the elastic clamp s, composed of wire, and connected with said handle, with the binding portion of said clamp bearing on the face side of said handle, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES M. WEBSTER.
