UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
LYMAN F. MONETT, OF NEW YGRTC N. Y.
LMPROVEM ENT lN CORSET-CLA SPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,921, dated February 5, 1878; application filed November 21,1877. a
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN F. MGNETT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Corset-Clasp; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which 'will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a clasp combining the advantages of the hook and eye now in use and the corset-lace; l accomplish this by using a strap in connection with a hinged clasp having a roller, to enable the wearer of the corset to draw the corset tight before clasping it.
Figure 1 represents a corset with the clasp and strap in place, showing the manner in which it is attached. Fig. 2 is a larger drawing of the clasp and strap, showing more clearly the device.
The clasp A, Fig. 2, has the lip d hinging on the pin 9 and the roller 1), and is provided with a strap, E, which has, at the extremity to be attached to the corset, a hook, f. The strap'E is riveted to the steel on one side of the corset, and the clasp A is riveted to the steel on the other side, and directly opposite the strap.
In use the strap is passed under the clasp, and through the opening between the shank of the clasp and the roller I), and is pulled until .the two sides of the corset meet and the lip d -falls over the hook f, which passes through the slot 0, where it is held in place by the tension of the corset.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The hinged clasp A and roller 0, in combination with the strap E and hook f, substantially as shown, and for the purposes set forth.
