- Application November 2, 1932, Serial No. 640,769 7 Claims. (Cl. 30-12) v This invention relates to safety razors and of the cap I5. As seen in Fig. 4 of the drawing, particularly to devices of this class employing the guard plate II has on opposite side edges double edged blades and a holder in which said thereof spaced projecting guard fingers I6 and blades are mounted; and the object of the inll. 1

The large recess 3| will place the recesses I9a, l9b in communication with each other to permit the clearing out of lather in the use of the razor just as readily as in the construction shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
In the use of the razor it will be understood that the edge 20a disposed above the guard fingers I] being free, will permit the performance of the first shaving operation in a quick, comfortable and assured manner, whereas the second or close shave may be performed with greater safety and assurance by the edge 20b disposed above the guard fingers l6.
By providing a razor of the class described, the user may perform the desired shaving operations more successfully, regardless of the characteristics of the skin or hair being shaven and twofold uses of the razor are provided. In this connection, it will be apparent that in some extreme cases, a user may find it desirable to use in some instances only one edge, but the holder is such as to adapt the razor for any and all uses and to suit the desires of all.
It will be understood that while 1 have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, I am not necessarily limited to these details and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

4. A razor of the class described comprising a guard plate and a cap, the guard plate being curved in cross sectional form and having a convex outer surface and a concave inner surface, the side edges of the guard plate terminating in longitudinally spaced guard fingers, the guard fingers at one side edge of the plate being continuous onto the upper surface thereof to form blade suspporting ribs upon which one cutting edge of a double edged blade is adapted to rest in close proximityto said guard fingers, the opposite side edge of said platehaving raised ribs intermediate the guard fingers to dispose the 3 upper surface of the guard fingers in spaced relation to the other cutting edge of the razor blade I disposed thereover, the recesses between the guard fingers at the first side edge of the plate being in transverse communication with the recesses in alinement with the guard fingers at the opposite side edge of the plate, and the raised ribs at the second sideedge of the plate being continuous with the guard fingers at the first side of the plate. 41
5. In a razor of the class described, a guard plate having longitudinally spaced guard fingers at opposed side edges thereof, the upper surface of said plate having transverse grooves, the
grooves at one side edge of the plate being dis- 5 posed intermediate. the guard finger and at the other side of the plate being in alinement with and continuous with the upper surfaces of the guard fingers, and said grooves being intercommunicating transversely of the plate. 5
6. In a razor of the class described, a guard plate having longitudinally spaced guard fingers at opposed side edges thereof, the upper surface of said plate having transverse grooves, the
grooves at one side edge of the plate being dis- 0 posed intermediate the guard finger and at the other side of the plate being in'alinement with and continuous with the upper surfaces of the guard fingers, said grooves being intercommunicating transversely of the plate, a cap detachable with respect to said plate and between which and the plate a razor blade is adapted to be supported, and means on the cap and plate for permitting one mounting only of the cap in connection with the plate.
7. In a razor of the class described, a guard plate having longitudinally spaced guard fingers at opposed side edges thereof, the upper surface of said plate having transverse grooves, thv grooves at one side edge of the plate being dis- 1 posed intermediate the guard finger and at the other side of the plate being in alinement with and continuous with the upper surfaces of the guard fingers, said grooves being intercommumeating transversely ofthe plate, a cap detachable with respect to said plate and between which and the plate a razor blade is adapted to be supported, and means on the cap and plate for percomprising a ribbed alinement pin on said cap and the plate having an aperture shaped to conform with the contour of said pin.
