Description

c. KLECKA SAFETY RAZOR Aug, 26 1924,,
Filed June 20. 1921 Patented Aug. 26, T924.
CE KLECKA, 0F
ASTORIA, YQM a.
SAFETY RAZOR. I
Application filed June 20,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Crranrns Knncna, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Astoria, Lon lsland, county of Queens, State of New ork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Razors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to multiply the number of cutting edges; to induce the person using the tool to shave with what is known as a shearing cut; to simplify. the operation of installing the cutting blades in service; and to simplify and cheapen the construction of the tool. 1
Drawings.
Description.
As seen in the drawings the handle 11 has a screw-threaded socket 12, in which is screwed a screw 13. The screw 13 is rigidly and permanently mounted on the bed plate 14:, which, as shown best in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, is curved backward at the ends. To permit the introduction of the thin flexible cutting blades 15, such as shown in Figure 6 of the drawings, V-shaped recesses 16 are provided in the bed plate at the n edian line in the center thereof, and in line with the screw 13 upstanding therefrom. The relatively narrow waist section thus formed in the bed plate 1% corresponds with a corresponding waist section formed in the blade 15 by the recesses 17 formed in the said plate in line with the perforation 18 with which the blade is provided. The perforation 18 is adapted to receive the screw 13 when the blade 15 is placed on the bed plate 14, to be installed in service. The plate 14: has at the extremities there- 1921. Serial No. 478,858.
of upturned lugs 19 to be engaged'by the elongated slots 20 at the opposite ends of the said plate. When installing the blades 15 in the plate 14, the said blades are bent on the waistlike portion thereof, and the screw 13 is passed through the perforation 18, the blade 15 being pressed upon the plate 14 until the slots 20 register with the lugs 19. ill/When in this position the blade is released, the resilience thereof causes the blade to engage the said lugs 19 to be retained thereby in position, while the finger plate or guard 21 is installed.
The plate or guard 21 is rigid and is provided at the opposite ends thereof with recesses 22. The said plate has a perforation 23, which passes freely over the screw 18.
The four edges of the said plate 21 are provided with fingers 24, which extend from the edge of the said plate to hold the skin of the person shaving down so that it will not be cut by the edge of the blade 15 when the same is moved over the face of the shaver.
When the parts are assembled as above set forth, it will be seen that the screw 13 extends upwardfrom the plates 14 and 21, to be engaged by the ,handle 11 and by the threads in the socket 12 thereof. The handle is then screwed into position, clamping the finger plate or guard 21 and blade 15 firmly upon the bed plate 14:. The tool is now in position to be employed.
It will be observed that, as the cutting edges of the tool are drawn over the face,
the tapering edges of the blade and the position thereof inclined to the handle 11, pre sents to the hirsute covering an inclined or shearing or shear-cutting position. it will also be observed that as the blade is provided with four cutting edges instead of the usual one or two, the useful life or the tool is prolonged beyond that usually provided in razors or the character mentioned.
Claims.
blade, means carried by said bed plate and adapted to engage said cutting bladeand said guard plate at the opposite ends thereof to retain the same in fixed superposed relation, and a handle detachably connecting said bed late for retaining the same, said cutting b ade and said guard plate in operative relation.
2. In a safety razor, a bed plate having its opposite portions extending in downwardly divenging relation, a cutting blade bendable transversely on the median line thereof and adapted to be positioned on the under side of said bed plate, a guard adapted to be positioned beneath said cutting blade, said cutting blade having longitudinally extending openings formed inwardly of the ends thereof and adapted to register with slotted recesses opening inwardly oft-he ends of said guard, means carried at the opposite ends of said bed plate and adapted to be passed through the openings of said cutting blade and engaged in the recesses of said guard whereby to maintain the parts in fixed superposed relation, and a handle detachably connecting said bed plate for retaining the same, said cutting operative position.
blade and said guard in 3. In a safety razor, a bed plate having its opposite portions extending downwardly in diverging relation, a cutt' blade bendable transversely on ,the median line thereof and adapted to be positioned on the under side of said bed plate, a guard adapted to be positioned beneath said cutting blade, said cutting blade having longitudinally extending openings formed inwardly of the ends thereof and adapted to register with slotted recesses opening inwardly of the ends of, said guard, lugs carried at the ends of said bed plate and adapted to be passed through the openings of said cutting blade and engaged in the recesses of said guard, a threaded stem formed centrally of the'under side of said bed plate and adapted to be passed through aligned central openings formed in said cutting blade and said guard, and a handle adapted for threaded engagement with said stem whereby to retain said bed plate, said cutting blade and said guard in service relation.
