1 Claim. (Cl. 273107) This invention relates to games and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind of the aerial type known as ring and peg and it is" primarily an object of the invention to provide a game in simulation of the well known game of horseshoes or quoits.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind having novel and improved means for throwing or casting the ring.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrange- -ment of the several parts of my improved game whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, whereinz- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a game constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;

Figure 2 is a fragmentary verticalsectional view taken longitudinally through an end portion of the device as illustrated in Figure 1 with certain of the parts in elevation.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved game comprises a base board I of desired dimensions and preferably elongated. This base board I at each end is provided thereacross with an upstanding end'wall or plate 2 and coacting with the ends of each of these walls or plates 2 are the brace plates 3 also secured to the adjacent marginal edges of the base board I. These brace plates 3 are preferably of a triangular formation and each of these plates 3, as illustrated in Figure 2, has its lower forward portion terminating in advance of an upstanding peg 4 carried by the adjacent end portion of the board I at substantially the transverse center thereof and ata desired distance inwardly of the adjacent end wall or plate 2.

As is also illustrated in Figure 2, this peg 4 is disposed on an upward incline in a direction away from the adjacent end wall or plate 2 and also in a direction lengthwise of the base board I. The 4 as illustrated in Figure 2 alsoterminates below the plane of the adjacent portion of the-upper or free edge of each of the plates 3.

Each of the end walls or plates 2' at the central part thereof have thereacross two parallel grooves or channels 5 and below and in vertical alignment with each of these grooves or channels 5 said end plate or wall 2 is provided with an inwardly disposed loop member 6. Each of the walls or plates 2 is adapted to have ap- 5 plied thereto a throwing or casting device D.

As herein disclosed this device D comprises a substantially U-shaped member I having elongated substantially parallel side arms 1', the outer extremities of which being continued by the perpendicularly related arms 1 Slidably arranged between the arms 1' is a slide 8, the side edges of which being provided therealong with the guiding grooves 9 in which are received the arms 1. A retractile spring ID of desired tension Q is secured at one extremity, as at I l', to the under surface of the slide 8 in relatively'close proximity to the inner end portion thereof, the Opposite end portion of said spring carrying a hook l2 orthe like whereby the spring I0 may be mounted 2 in eifectiveworking position.

In applying the device D to a wall or plate 2' the portions of the arms I immediately adjacent to the arms I are seated in the grooves or channels 5 while the arms I are inserted through the loop 6. This assures an effective mounting of the device yet readily permits the'same to be removed when desired and particularly to facilitate packing or storage. After the device D has been applied the hook I2 of the spring In is engaged with a loop M or kindred member extending outwardly from the outer face of the associated end wall or plate 2 as is clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the accompanying drawing.

The upper face of the slide 8 is provided in its outerend portion with a pocket l5 substantially open 'at the outer end of the. slide 8 and having its inner wall portion substantially semi-circular and, as is particularly illustrated in Figure 2, the' inner or rear portion of the-pocket I5 is of a 4 depth greater than the depth of the forward portion with the bottom wall of the pocket plane and inclined from its outer high point to its rear low point.

In playing the game. a ring I6 or kindred'memv It is the object of the game to have the rings or kindred members l6 engage around the target peg I or to throw said rings or members l6 as close to the peg 4 as possible. In playing the game considerable skill can be developed and at the same time aifording pleasure and amusement to the players.

Any desired rules for scoring may be used but as this forms no particular part of the invention no such rules are being set forth.

From the foregoing description itis thought to be obvious that a game constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof'and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim:-

A casting device for a game comprising a substantially U-shaped member having parallel arms, the free extremities of the arms being continued by angular extensions to provide attaching means for holding the device in working position, a casting slide supported by and between the substantially parallel arms, said slide having a substantially flat upper surface, a tensioning member for coaction with the slide for moving the same in one direction, said slide having a pocket in its flat face and opening at the outer end of the slide with the bottom of the pocket increasing in depth rearwardly from its open end.
