IMPROVEMENT IN TAG-FASTENERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,689, dated December 25, 1877; `application filed October 23, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, EDWARD A. G. ROUL STONE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Device for Attaching` Labels or terial and turned over or clinched on the opposite side, the staple being so formed as to receive on its crossbar a folded label, and per.- mit one or both its sides to vbe exposed to view.

The drawings accompanying and making part of this specification represent, in Figures 1 and 2, perspective views, and in Fig. 3 a section, of a ticket or label containing my improvement.

In the drawings, A represents the body of the ticket. In the drawings the ticket is represented as formed of a strip of paper-board or other material, folded endwise 4in such manner as to produce at one end an eye or loop, a. In this eye a, I insert a wire, b, and turn or bend the ends c c of such wire at rightangles to the end of the ticket, thus providing a pivot upon which the body ofthe ticket may turn or swing 5 or the wire b may be bent prior to inserting it in the eye, as stated, and the strip` of paper-board folded about the wire, as circumstances may dictate.

The ends c of the wire are to be pointed, and constitute prongs to enter the material to which the ticket is attached, and after being passed through such material are to be bent or turned down upon the opposite side, thus, while securely attaching the ticket to such material, enabling it to turn or swing upon the wire, and expose either of its sides to view.

The wire clasp in Fig. l is shown as a simple staple, while in Fig. 2 it is shown as having a double bend, a3,whichin some instances may be found preferable. In each case, however, there is a wire fastener formed withY a straight cross-bar of a length to receive a ticket or label which is folded around it, and also with two prongs extending rearwardly at right angles to the cross-bar, which serve to hold the device to the goods.

I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the wire fastener form ed with two rearwardly-projecting prongs, connected by a cross-bar, with a label or tag folded around said cross-bar, substantially as set forth. f
