According to one, feature of the invention, the holder is adapted to receive the napkins and retain them in such relationithat thewhole forms a convenient'and neat package which may be easily wrapped and which issuitable for shipping. At the same time the napkins are packaged in such a way that they not only make a distinctive display for show purposes but they may be quickly and easily withdrawn from the holder when it is desired to use them. 1

Various novel objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter more fully referred to in connection with the accompanying description of the preferred form thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a blank formed to provide the holder of the invention.

Fig. 2 is a perspective elevational view of the blank in set-up position having a stack of napkins or the like associated therewith, and

Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevational view showing how the handle of the holder is secured to a wall of the holder.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the in-- vention will be fully described. I

In Fig. 1 there is shown a blank B which is shaped in a certain way and adapted to be bent or folded into the form of a holder.

The blank 13 has side wall portions 2 and 4 and an intermediate portion 6. The wall portions 2 and 4 are bendable relativeto the intermediate portion 6 along creases or score lines 3 and 5. In

this way, the wall portions 2 and 4 may be bent into the position shown in Fig. 2 and the'po'rtion 6 may serve as a bottom wall of the package.

A slot 8 isprovided adjacent the outer end of one of the side walls such'as 2 and a relatively narrow tab member 10 extends outwardly from the outer end of the other side wall such as 4.

The tab member 10 may be called a handleor tie member and is scored on lines 11 and 13 as;

shown. In this way, portions l2 and l6 and an inserted in the slot 8 and held in place by the intermediate portion 14 are provided forpurposes which will shortly be described.

I Then the tie member 10 is folded downwardly along line 13 so that its forward portion 16 is at substantially right angles to the portion 14 and in substantially the same plane with the other side wall. In this way, the portions 12 and 16 of the strap member are in substantial parallelism with one another. It is of course desirable that the intermediate portion 14 of the strap be substantially the same width as the intermediate portion 6. I

The outer end 18 of the part 16 may be curved or pointed as shown so as to form a tab part and be readily receivable in the slot 8. A slit 22 which maybe curved as shown is preferably provided in the portion 16 so as to forma lock tab 21. In this way the tab part 18 may be lock tab 21 which is bent relative to the plane of the part 16 as shown in Fig. 3. A plurality of napkins which are preferably of crepe paper are represented by N. These are disposed in suitably folded relation between the walls 2 and 4. Thus they may lie adjacent the bottom wall 6 and are held in place by the strap or tie member 10. Of course, the napkins N may be inserted after the holder is set up as shown or they may be laid on the blank before it is folded into set-up relation in such a way that the blank may be easily folded around them to form the package.

The blank is preferably made of cardboard or some other equallysuitable material so that the holder will be relatively stiff and serve as a protection'as well as a holder. Cardboard is also desirable since such holders may be economically made therefrom. Of course, the holders may be decorated in various ways with designs, 50 printing or the like. i It is also desirable but not necessary that the opposite ends of the blank proper be curved as shown. This not only adds to the distinctive appearance of the holder but makes it possible for one to see part of the napkins which would drawal of a napkin or napkins from the package is facilitated.

- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a dispensing package comprising in' combination, a

.single sheetof foldable material formed to have a pair of vertical spaced side walls extending upwardly from the opposite longitudinal marginal edges of a horizontally extending bottom wall and a relatively narrow strap member extending from the upper marginal edge of one .of said side walls, the other of said side walls being provided with a slot adjacent its upper marginal edge, and a stack of paper napkins disposed vertically between said side walls with their lower edges resting on said bottom wall and their side edges exposed, said strap member having a portion overlying said stack of napkins and an end portion provided with a lock tab engaged with said slot to prevent withdrawal of the strap member from the slot whereby said side walls are held in spaced relation by said strap member and said napkins are withdrawable endwise from between said walls. I

As a new article of manufacture, a dispensing package comprising in combination, a container and a stack of articles to be dispensed therefrom, the said container being formed from a single sheet of material bent intermediate its ends to provide spaced side wall members extending upwardly from opposite longitudinal marginal edges of an intermediate bottom wall vmember to form an open-ended U-shaped trough,

one of said side wall members being provided with a slit, adjacent its upper marginal edge, and a relatively narrow strap member extending upwardly from the upper marginal edge of the other of said side Wall members, the said strap member being bent inwardly at a distance upwardly from said edge into parallelism with said bottom wall member and then downwardly into parallelism with said one side wall memberwith its extremity inserted in said slit to hold said side wall members against separation, the said articles to be dispensed including a plurality of napkins held in stacked relation by said side walls and supported at their lower edges by said bottom wall of the trough whereby said napkins present their side edges at the opposite ends of the trough and may be withdrawn from beneath said strap endwise of the container.
