Description
J. LAUTH. Toy-Buzzes.
No. 197,479. Patented Nav. 27, 1877.
INVENTOR N PETERS, PHOT0-UTHUGHAPHEE WASHINQTON. D` CV UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JACOB LAUTH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ToY BuzzEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,479, dated November 27, 1877 application led April 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB LAUTH, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buzzing Toys, of which improvements the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the said improvements, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming-a part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toy embodying my invention 5 Fig. 2, a section in a plane passing vertically through the longitudinal center of the band forming-the periphery ofthe disk; and Fig. 3, avertical central cross-section in the plane of the line a: x of Fig. 2.
In the drawing, A represents a hollow disk, and B is a double or folded cord, passing through holes made near the central part of the disk, one strand passing through each hole, or oppositely-arranged holes, as shown.
I make the disk A of the annular band C, capped on each edge by the concavo-convex disks D D. A i
a is a slot in the periphery of the disk A, and a' is a cross-bar, extending laterally across this slot. There may be one or more slots, a a, f each crossed by a bar, a.
By rotating the disk A, so as to twist the strands of cord together, as represented, a'
contrary rotation may be produced by tightening the cord or strands, and the momentum of the disk will be sufficient to rewind the cord. In this manner the disk A may be rotated rapidly in different directions alternately as long,` as may be desired, and the rotation will produce a loud buzzing noise.'
The device makes a harmless toy, which affords much amusement to children.
I am aware that devices of this class, consisting of solid disks, with teeth on the periphery, and others without teeth, have heretofore been made.
I 'am also aware of the construction shown and described in the patents to W. D. Porter, No. 70,610, November 5, 1867, and to C. Page,
No. 61,857, February 5, 1867, respectively,
and I do not, therefore, here intend to claim such; but
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A buzz-toy consisting of the hollow disk A, having therein holes to receive the cord B, and made ofthe annular band C, having therein one or more slots, a a, crossed by the bars a a', and the said band being capped by the concavo-convex disks D D, all substantially as and for the purposes specified.
JACOB LAUTH.
