Description
Patented Oct. 30,1877.
F.' W. KOCH. Necktie-Retainers.
No`l 196,587
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK W. KOCH, OF ST. CLAIR, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE IPRETAINERS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,587, dated October 30, 1877; application filed August 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. KOCH, of borough of St. Clair, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Neck-Tie Supporters andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains .to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of referencemarked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a neck-tie shield and retainer made of a single-piece of wire, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, to which reference is made, and which fullyillustrates my invention, Figure l is a rear view, and Fig. 2 is a `front view, of a device embodying` my inven tion.
` My neck-tie shield and retainer is made of a single piece of wire bent substantially in the form shown, forming the two wings A A, to tit to the neck and under the collar. Between these wings the wire is bent to form a U- shaped center piece, B, with two inclined jaws, a a, at the bottom, which have enough spring to let the shank of the collar-button pass through and into a circular space or opening, b, of such size as to retain the shank therein, but prevent the head of the button from going through.
The ends of the wire at the bottom of the Wings A formv eyes el d, and similar eyes are formed at the j Luiction of the center piece and wings for the purpose of sewing the shield to the neck-tie C.
This combined shield and retainer is light and durable, and does away with the usual elastic cord, which stretches and gets out of order in a short time.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The center piece B, having opening b, and the jaws a a, in combination with the wings A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A combined neck-tie shield and retainer made of a single piece of wire bent to form the Wings A A, center piece B, with jaws a a and opening b, and the eyes d, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my -own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK w. KOCH.
