Description

A. H.v m.
CLASPS FOR HOLDING NECK-TIES. 'No. 192,156., Eelt'ented m; 19,-1B77.
WITNESSES: Y m on means of a thin metal plate,
PATENT OFFICE.
ALVIN H. onn, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FORHOLDING NECK-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,! 56, dated June 19, 1877 April 23,1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALVIN H. DODD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bow-Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to a new and useful device for fastening made-up bows to the collar-button and consists, mainly, in a crosswire spring which is permanently fastened to the bow-shield by a metal plate, in which it swings loosely, the construction and operation of my invention being described as follows:
Figure 1 represents a plan of my invention as applied to the bow-shield. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same through the line w .10.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the case here presented, the bow-fastener is made of wire, bent in form, as shown in Fig. 1. It will here be observed that the wire crosses at the point indicated by A, forming a spring, which keeps the neck ends together, as shown at B.
This device is attached to the bow-shield by (3, which is riveted to the shield, or, if desired, the said device may be secured to the shield by stitching thereto.
application filed The portion above the neck B is spread in the form of a V, so as to allow it to be adjusted to the neck of the collar-button with ease, and by a gentle upward pressure the springs will spread and the neck of the collarbutton will be confined in the space between A and B. The bow is removed by a reverse or downward pull, which also causes the springs to spread.
The above-described bow-fastener is bent inward, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to cause the shield to be held snugly against the shirtbosom when worn.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The neck-tie or bow fastener herein described, consisting of a spring-clasp formed from a single piece of wire, bent into loopshape, to receive an attaching-plate, having 'an eye for the reception of the collar-button, and provided with outwardly-branching ends, to facilitate the entrance and removal of said button, as and for the purpose set forth.
' ALVIN H. DODD.
