Description

M. TANENBAUM.
WASH-BOILERS.
No. 194,385. Patented Aug. 21
N.PETER$, PHDTO-LITHOGRAPHEK WASHINGTON. PIC
. which is open at both end UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
MORES TANENBAUM, OF GRAFTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,385, dated August 21 March 19, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORES TANENBAUM, of
Grafton, inthe county of Jersey and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash-Boiler, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved apparatus, taken through the line :20 m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, part of the cover being removed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved apparatus for boiling and washing clothes, cooking food, and other similar uses, which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and will require but a small amount of fuel to operate it.
The invention will first be described in con nection with the drawing and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the body of the boiler, which may be round or square, cylindrical or flaring, and of any desired size.
The boilerA is supported upon legs B of such a length as to raise said boiler to a convenient height, and has a circumferential bead, A, on the inside.
In a hole in the center of the bottom of the boiler A is secured the lower end of a pipe, 0, s, and has a grate, D, secured in its lower end to support the fire.
The part of the pipe 0 within the boiler A is surrounded with a pipe, E, placed at the distance of a quarter of an inch or more from the pipe 0, and perforated with numerous holes. The pipe E prevents the clothes or other objects being boiled from coming in contact with and being scorched by the hot pipe 0. The pipe E also acts as a steamer to project small streams of water and steam through 1877 application filed the clothes, which washes them quickly, and renders it unnecessary to use a wash-board.
The boiler A is provided with a closely-fitting cover, F, which is made in two parts or halves, having half-round notches formed in the centers of their inner edges to form a hole for the pipe 0 to pass through, so that the cover can be removed without its being necessary to remove the section of pipe G from the upper end of the pipe 0. The section of pipe G is provided with a damper,H, to enable the draft to be controlled as desired.
The boiler A, near its bottom, is provided with a faucet, I, to enable the water to be drawn from said boiler when required.
J is a compartment or vessel, which is so formed as to fit into the space between the side of the boiler A and the perforated pipe E, and which is provided with a closely-fitting cover, K, and flange a. By the use of flange a and bead A, the two being placed in corresponding position on the vessel J and boiler A, the vessel J is very conveniently supported and at a suitable elevation.
The vessels J, any desired number of which may be used, are designed to receive meats, vegetables, and other articles to be cooked.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A wash-boiler consisting of the vessel A, tapering toward its bottom, provided with central fire-chamber and flue D O, as well as water-jacket E, and having circumferential beads A, adapted to receive the separate segmental vessel J, having the flange a and cover K, all as and for the purpose set forth.
