Description

A. HOLBROOK. RAW-HIDE WASTE-CAMS..
No. 193.55-6- Patented July 31,18'77H,
N. PETERS.. FM1T0-L|THOGRAPHER WASHINGTON. D CA ALBERT HOLBROOK, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN RAWHIDE WASTE-SANS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,656, dated July 31, 1877; application led June 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT HoLBRooK, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tubs or Waste-Cans; and do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and rep'- resented in the accompanying drawings, of Whioh- Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a side elevation, Fig. 3 a vertical section, and Fig. 4 a horizontal section, of a Waste-can of my improved kind. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section of it, taken through its handles.
The body of this can I make of rawhide. It is composed of a tube, A, and a bottom, B. The said tube A is a sheet of rawhide, bent around in a tubular form and lapped together at its edges, and there connected by rivets, as shown at a. The bottom B is a disk of rawhide, having a diameter larger than that 0ftween the fold d andthe part of thetube encompassed by it. Y
The outer fold d has two vertical slits, g g,
made in it, for the reception of each of the handlesU, whose ends are inserted through these slits, andV between the tube and either or both the folds, and are secured'thereto by rivets going through the hole'and the tube, in manner as shown at e e.
All this is to be done while the material is in a wet or pliant state. After it may become dry it will be stiff, and should be shellaced, varnished, or painted.
While the folds of the upper end of the tube give strength to it, they uid materially iu se curing the handles to it.
I elaiml As an improved manufacture, the rawhide Waste tub or can, having the upper part of its body folded as described, and each ofits handles inserted in the outer'fold, and fastened thereto, and to the part orparts lencompassed by such fold, all being substantially as specified.
ALBERT HOLBROOK.
