v 1 Claim.
My presentinvention relates to a combination razor and blade stropping holder and more particularly to a combination razor and holder which is adapted to receive varying types of blades.
Hitherto it has been customary either to remove a safety razor blade from the razor itself and insert it in a separate holder for purposes of sharpening the blade or else the blade is rem moved, assembled with another element and remounted in the razor. Furthermore it may be pointed out that there are several classes of safety razor blades which difier enough as to be impossible of being held in any one type of holder 1 for sharpening purposes.
Withthese difllculties in mind I have designed a razor and blade stropping holder combined in one unit which does not require any interchangement of pieces but can be effective for either type of operation by a very simple adjustment of the razor and moreover the device has a detachable feature making it possible to use varying types of safety razor blades therein.
The principal object of my invention is therefore a combination safety razor and blade stropp holder.
Another object is a device of the character above described which may be adjusted without replacement of other elements.
Still another object is a blade stropping holder provided with an adjustment member adapted to allow for the retention of various types of razor blades.
Other objects and novel features comprising the construction and operation of my device will appear as the description of the same progresses.

in Fig. 5 but with the clip member pivoted upwardly, the blade removed and an adjustment member partly withdrawn and Fig. 8 is across-section taken on of Fig. 7.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, 10 indicates a flat base member to which is pivoted a handle member 11. The base. member 10 is provided with a thin portion 12 outwardly extending from the shoulder 13. Upon the inner surface of the portion 12 has been milled a slideway 13a adapted to slidably receive an adjustment dog member 14 on which is solidly mounted two dogs 15 and 16.
Recessed against the shoulder 13 of the base 10 and internally hinged thereto at 1'7 is a looking plate 18 having slots 19 and 20 cut therethrough which are adapted to receive the dogs 15 and 16. 21 is a broken line showing of a razor blade in perspective mounted on the adjustment member 14 with the dogs 15 and 16 sufficiently protruding upwards as to engage with the slots 19 and 20 of the locking plate 18 when the latter is in a closed state as shown in Fig. 5, thereby strongly securing the blade between the locking plate 18 and the adjustment member 14.
Pivoted on the base member 10 at right angles to the arc of rotation of the locking plate 18 and at a point slightly in the rear of the shoulder 13 is a U shaped clip member 22 adapted to pass around one of the edges of the thin portion 12 and a corresponding edge of the locking plate 18 when the latter is in a closed position and compressibly hold the two edges together in a solid manner. Clip member 22 is provided with a grip portion 23 adapted to be actuated by the thumb of the operator for the purpose of pivoting the member 22 upward. The device as at present revealed comprises a thin portion 12, the looking plate 18 and the clip 22. These elements when assembled serve two purposes namely they comprise the body of the razor itself and serve as a very eifective holder for a blade for stropping purposes without any change therein. The dogs 15 and 16 are so disposed that they will receive various types of slotted blades and this flexibility is further increased due to the fact that the adjustment member 14 may be moved to any desired position in the slideway 13a.
' Detachably mounted on the reverse side of the base member 10 is a safety guard member 24 having a tongue portion 25 which is slidably contained within a raised receptacle 26. The guard member 24 is provided along its lower edge with a series. of orifices 27 which together with the the line 88 openings 28 and 29 unite to form a better me for maintaining the guard in an unhampered condition when applied to a lathered surface.
' Fig. 4 shows a section of the guard member 24 with the under front portion slightly cut away. This recessed area is located adjacent to the row of orifices 27 and is designed to permit the passage of used lather therethrough into the opening 28 and 29. The orifices 2'] create a suction effect which to a large extent draws the lather under the cut away portion of the guard 24 and obviates clogging action around the teeth of the guard member.
In operation the device is used as shown assembled in Fig. 1. If at any time it is desired tosharpen the blade the only action necessary is to simply press the guard member 24 forward and remove it entirely leaving the blade ready mounted for the stropping operation without further adjustment. Should it be desired to use a blade designed with only one cutting edge, it would be possible to mount the blade in the same manner with the adjustment member 14 being moved to a suitable position or if need be removed entirely from the slideway 130;.
While I have shown a particular form of my means invention, it is to be understood that various modifications may be resorted to in the construction and operation of the device while still continuing to adhere to the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A combination razor and blade stropping holder comprising in combination a flat base member, a guard member detachably keyed at one side thereof, said guard member provided with a recessed under portion and orifices located therethrough said recess and orifices adapted to induce the passage of lather away from the outer edge of a razor blade located therebetween, a slideway located in the opposite side of said base adapted to slidably receive an adjustment member therein, upstanding dogs mounted on said adjustment member, a hinged locking plate adapted to seat against said adjustment memher, said locking plate provided with slots adapted to engage with said dogs, a clip member pivoted on said base member and adapted to compressibly encase the base, the locking plate, and a razor blade located therebetween, along one edge thereof.
