BATHING nconssonY Applicationfiled July 28,
This invention relates to an accessory for bathing which is useful either at home or at the beach and which is so constructed as to serve in various capacities such as a towel in the ordinary manner or in the novel man.- ner hereinafter described in addition to being further useful as a cape or robe to cover and protect the shoulders, upper part of the heel: and arms of the wearer.
The invention broadly comprehends an accessory of the indicated character by virtue of which an ordinary bath towel, in addition to being useful in its ordinary manner, is converted so as to facilitate the drying of the shoulders, upper part of the back and arms, and to further function as a cape or robe to cover the shoulders, upper part of the back and arms of the wearer.
The invention further resides in the provision of means adjacent the opposite ends of a towel which secures together transversely spaced portions of tie towel so as to form arm-receiving loops spaced from each other and from the ends of the towel in the direc- 23-,- tion of the length of the towel.
As a further feature, the invention contemplates the provision of detachable means for connecting said portions of the towel whereby the same may be optionally connected or disconnected.
The invention still further aims to provide a plurality of detachable means of connection adjacent the opposite ends of the towel whereby provision is made for adjustment to conform to the size of the wearer of the accessory.
Other objects of the invention reside in the simplicity of construction and mode of use of the accessory, the economy with .Lcwhich the same may be produced and the general efficiency derived therefrom.
WVith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is made to the following specification and accompanying drawing in 5 which there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, while the claim defines the scope thereof.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a View illustrating the accessory 1n use as a cape.
1932. Serial N0. 625,503.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken approximately on the line 22 indicated in Figure l.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail sectional view on an, enlarged scale more particularly illustrating the detachable means of connec tion.
Figure 4 is a view of the accessory in opened condition for use as an ordinary towel. I
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail sectional view similar to Figure3, illustrating a modifiedform offastening means.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, 5 designates the body ofthe accessory which is preferably of oblong configuration and which is in practice constructed of an absorbent materlal such as Turkish towelmg.
The body 5 adjacent the opposite'ends thereof is secured together at transversely spaced portions to provide arm-receiving loops a which are spaced from each other and from the ends of the towel in the direction ofthe length of the towel so that it may be donned byinserting the arms through the loops a in the manner illustrated in Figure 1. This may be done either for the purpose of facilitating the dryin ofthe arms, shoulders and upper part or the back after a bath or for the purpose of utilizing the accessory as a cape or robe for protecting the wearer against sunburn, chill winds, or for other purposes.
Preferably, the securing together of the transversely spaced portions is accomplished by means of snap fasteners including male and female elements 6 and 7 so that when the snap fasteners are detached the body 5 may be used in the manner of an ordinary towehand further to facilitate laundering of the body. I
As shown, a plurality of snap fastener elements 6 and 7 are located adjacent each corner of the towel arranged in longitudinal rows whereby the accessory is adjustable to fit the wearer. It is, of course, obvious within thescope of the invention that the portions may be permanently connected if desired. In the modified form of snap fastener illustowel having adjacent both ends and adjacent side edges aligned groups of fastening members, said fastening members adapted when the towel is thrown over the shoulders of the wearer to couple on a series of securing means between the arms and body of the wearer.
