Description
Aug. 30, 1932. C JARV|$ REGEPTACLE Filed March 2, 1931 7 l [2% 1 z J INVENTOR ATTORN EYS Patented Aug. 30, 1932 UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE CHARLES H. JARVIS, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO UNITED STEEL & WIRE COMPANY, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN REcErTAcLE Application filed March 2,
The main object of this invention is to provide a metal basket or receptacle having a solid bottom which is light in weight and at the same time strong and durable in structure and attractive in appearance.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved receptacle.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bottom.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail section on line 4e4 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, the structure illustrated comprises a bottom border frame 1 of wire and a top border frame 2 also of wire. The vertical slats 3 are formed of wire and secured by electric welds to the top and bottom border frames. The top border frame is slightly larger than the bottom border frame so that the slats may be arranged with their lower ends on the outer side of the bottom border frame and their upper ends on the inside of the top frame.
In the structure illustrated the top border frame is inclined, the receptacle being de signed especially for display purposes.
Reinforcing bars 4 and 5 are secured on the outer sides of the slats intermediate the top and bottom border frames, these also being spotwelded to the slats.
The bottom 6 is formed of sheet metal and has upwardly ofl'set edges 7 lapped upon and secured to the bottom border frame at suitable intervals as indicated at 8 in Fig. 4 so that the bottom in effect becomes an integral part or is integrally united to the bottom border frame.
This bottom preferably has transverse corrugations 9 which stiffen it and also facilitate the piling of the merchandise therein, that is, prevents somewhat its sliding about when the receptacle is not filled or the bottom entirely covered.
1931. Serial No. 519,363.
My improved receptacles are economical to produce, attractive in appearance and strong and durable, even when made of light mater1a Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is; 7
1. In a rectangular box, the combination of top and bottom border frames of wire, vertical slats of wire disposed on the outer side of the bottom border frame and on the inner side of the top border frame and welded thereto, and a sheet metal bottom having upwardly offset edges overlapping said bottom border frame and welded thereto, said bottom having transverse corrugations terminating in spaced relation to its longitudinal edges.
2. In a rectangular receptacle, the combination of top and bottom border frames of wire, vertical slats of wire disposed on the Y hand.
CHARLES H. JARVIS.
