Description

Jan. 1, 1935. c, DAPP PEDESTAL 8 Filed Sept. 27, 1932 W W" 34 [IN I:
Patented Jan. 1, 1935 UNITED s'rATEs- AT NT EQFF E PEDESTAL,
Charles Dapp,'New York, N.*Y., assignor to U'. S- Slicing Machine Company, La Porte, Ind., a. corporation of Indiana Application September 27,1932, saarm63ao74 s claims; (01. 24841) 1 machine both for'repairing and for use while the machine is in operation.
A still further object of this invention is to provide means for weighting the pedestal if desired.
Other objects of this inventionrwill appear hereinafter as the description thereof proceeds,
the novel features, arrangements, and. combina-" tions being clearly set forth in the appended claims."
In the drawing: Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of a pedestal embodying my. invention;
' Fig; 2 represents a vertical cross-section through the pedestal; and,
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the: shelf for supporting the slicing machine.
The pedestal comprises side walls 10, a rear wall 11, and a front wall 12, each of which is flared at the bottom'and welded to each other along their meeting edges to form a rigid hollow column. The bottom of the column has a depending flange 13 which extends entirely around the base and to this there is secured within the hollow column, a plate 14 which substantially entirely covers the bottom of the hollow column and is secured thereto by welding the flange 15 thereof to the flange 13 of the hollow column to make a liquid-tight joint therebetween. The center of the plate 14 has an opening 16 therein of any desired shape and this is preferably covered by a plate 17 secured to the plate 14 by means of the screws 18. A gasket 19 is interposed between the plates 17 and 14 to provide a liquid-tight seal. As is illustrated quite clearly in Fig. 1, the side 12 of the pedestal is open and is provided with shelves 20 and 21 mounted on brackets 22 and 23 respectively, welded or otherwise secured to the other sides of the pedestal, and they in turn being secured to the shelves 20 and 21 respectively by spot welding or the like. The forward edges 24 and 25 of the shelves 20 and 21 extend downwardly to give the appearance of thickness to the shelves and also to make the front edge of the shelf rigid and prevent it from bending in the center as would otherwise occur. The edges 26 of the sides 10 are rolled inwardyhas. illustrated in Fig. 1 to reenforcethese. edges where not. joined to the side 12. The top. of the pedestal is formed by acap member27- v havinga depending flange 28 welded peripheral- 1y about the outside-ofthe top of the 1 column formed by.the..s ides 10,111, and 12. To this. there is secured a, substance supportinggtable 29 which has a flange 30 substantially concentric witht' the flange 28. The table is secured in? place by. means of the machine, screws 31 or the; like; The table 29 has laterally. extending arms 32 which are 'reenforcedperipherally by means of flanges .33 and perforated as at 34 to receive. fastening: means for fastening a slicing machine theretog In the present instance, ,three arms 32 are shown each of which supports-a leg of .a'
' slicing machine having three legs. 'Theshelf.
20' has anopening 35 which need not'be'very. large, and itis-the purpose of this invention-to weight the pedestal desired so that although the-pedestal itselfis of very light construction,
it may be made heavier at will "when acmore rigid support is desired; Therefore, ifthe owner of a machine wishes' 'to-make the pedestal heavier, either water or sand may be inserted through the opening'35 in a suflioient quantity to give the desired added weight to the pedestal.
When it is desired to decrease the weight, the
plate 17 may be removed and the water or sand removed from the base of the pedestal in desired quantities, or in case the pedestal is'used for water, only, a suitable spigot may be used by which the water may be drained from the base of the machine without a great amount of labor. I
The pedestal is supportedv by the feet 36 which are formed of rubber or the. like andsecured to the base by screws 37 passing there-through and through the plate 14.
The shelves 20 and 21 may be used for the purpose of supporting tools used for repairing the machine or for oil, cleaning cloths, etc. One of the shelves can be used for paper in which the meat is to be wrapped.
The pedestal while made of light gauge metal is so constructed that avery rigid structure results which is not only economical to manufacture, but reduces freight charges in transportation thereofh However, the customer receives the benefit of a heavier pedestal since he can by. a very simple operation fill the base withwater or sand to increase the weight and secure any desired degree of rigidity of the pedestal within the capacity thereof.
Obviously those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains may make various changes in the modifications of the invention herein disclosed without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the appended claims, and therefore I do not wish to be limited in my invention except asset forth hereinafter in the appended claims. Iclaim;
