Patented June 28, 1932 UNITED STATES PAItL o. ncxnns, or CLEVELAND,- onIo GOMBINATION CIGARETTE nisrm masamn Application filed November 4,}?31 Serial No., 573,023 4 This invention relates to cigarette dispensing devices and has special reference to a cigarette dispenser and humidifier.
One important object of the invention is to 5 provide an extremely simple device of this character wherein the delivery device used in the invention has but a single part.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a novel form of such invention wherein a delivery slide is arranged to project at will from opposite sides of a casing and to deliver a cigarette whether projected from one side or the other.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a novel construction of device 0 this character wherein all parts can be made from thin sheet metal.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide a novel closure for a device of this character constituting an ash receiver.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several Views, and:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 1.
In the embodiment of the invention as here shown there is provided a casing body having a base 10, end walls 11 and side walls 12. This base projects beyond the end walls as clearly shown in Figure 2. An opening 14 is formed in each end wall and extends from side wall to side wall and from the base upwardly for a suitable distance.
The delivery member consists of a sheet of metal bent on its transversely extending middle line to provide two synclinal portions 15. The metal at the lower ends of each of these synclinal portions is bent to form a trough of rectangular cross section and having a vertical inner wall 16 of slightly less height 50 than the opening 14, a bottom 17 and a vertif trough at the other end is fully projected cal outer wall. 18 of the same height as the opening 14a This member fits slidably between the side walls 12 with the trough bottoms res'ting on the base 10. Moreover, the member is of greater length than the casing so that when one trough wall 18 is flush in its 'opening the "entire trough at the other end'of the delivery member will lie outside the casing, the lower part of the synclinal portion at this end engaging the top of the opening 14 to forms. stop for the delivery slide and thus to limit its movement. The delivery slide may be removed from the casing by pushing on one wall 18 until the Then the upper edge of the pushed wall 18 is sprung in and that 'endraised and kept close to the end wall 10 which results in the protruded' trough being drawn in so that the delivery slide may assume diagonal position within the casing and thus be lifted up. Reversing this operation enables the delivery slide to be replaced. A sponge cup or the like, as at 19-, may be positioned beneath the delivery slide and water or other suitable huinidifying agent may be placed from time to time in this cup by lifting the slide as above described. The casing is provided with a closure in the form of a tray 20 arranged to fit snugly within the top of the casing and provided with a peripheral flange 21 resting on top of the walls of the'casing; Troughs 22 are formed atthe corners of this tray for the reception of cigarettes in the-intervals between smok- In use, the slide being in position, the closure is removed and a number of cigarettes are placed in the casing. These cigarettes will lie in the spaces formed between the end walls of the casing and the delivery slide and, with one of the troughs pushed in, one cigarette will lie in the pushed in trough. By pushing inwardly on the opposite trough this cigarette and the trough containing the same will be projected so that the cigarette can be removed. At the same time a cigarette will drop into the inwardly pushed trough ready for delivery from this end.
Perforations 23 along the apex of the slide permit moist air to rise above the slide.
Due to these perforations being in the apex they cannot be covered by a cigarette.
There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. The combination of a casing having end 7 walls each provided with a delivery opening; of a delivery slide in said casing having a trough at each end adapted to receive a cigarette, said slide being of greater length than the casing to fully expose the trough at one end ofthe slide upon the other end of the slide being pushed into the casing to conceal the entire trough at that end, the slide between its troughs having its upper face forming synclinal surfaces extending from the center downwardly to the troughs, the openings in the end walls having their upper edges engageable by the synclinal surfaces to form stops for said slide. 7
2. The combination of a casing having end walls each provided with a delivery opening; of a delivery slide in said casing having a trough at each end adapted to receive a cigarette, said slide being of greater length than the casing to fully expose the trough at one end of the slide upon the other end of the slide being pushed into the casing to conceal the entire trough at that end, said slide being formed from a single sheet of metal bent to have the troughs at its ends below the central portion and resting on the bottom of the casing whereby a compartment for a humidifier is formed beneath said central portion of the slide, the slide between its troughs having its upper face forming synclinal surfaces extending from the center downwardly to the troughs, the openings in the end walls having their upper edges engageable by the synclinal surfaces to form stops for said slide. In testimony whereof I] aiiix my signature.
