Description

Patented Mar. .8, .1932 c UNITED srMEsf"PM"ENT OFFICE SAMUEL HORACE WRIGHT DAWSON,` or` erA:rns1,oncy tfrerny ENGLAND, AssIGNoR To MARSHALL, SONS AND COMPANY LIMITED, OF GAINSBOROUGH, ENGLAND, A. BRITISH COMPANY Applcatonrled January 23, 1931, Serial No.l
The present invention relates to tractors, and more particularly to means for driving the same.
5 ternal combustion'engine inthe form of a horizontal two-stroke cyclefDieseloor heavy `oil engine is built on the tractor to form an integral Vpart of the frame thereof preferably at the front of the tractor, whilst above and 10 intermediate the ends of the cylinder, i. e., at
the rear of the cylinder head aradiator 1s provided, the said radiator formingv part of the cooling system for the engine cylinder and having water passed through it'from'a-V pump situated in rear of the radiator. Y
The invention is more particular Adescribed with referecne tothe accompanying drawing which shows part of` a tractor in side ele#- g vation. I
provided with the usual spikes orvstrakes' 3Q The driving wheelsB may be driven directly,v
gearing 6 driven from the main driving shaft'- of a two-stroke Diesel engine 7 which prefer ably forms part of the frame of the tractor. Y
This engine is preferably of the single cylinder type, but may also be two or multi-,cylindered. The head 8 of the cylinder or cylinders is detachable and forms part ofv a water j circulating system, including a radiator mounteddirectly on the cylinder to allow for full access and detachability of the head 8.
The cooled water fromthe radiator 9passes l downwards into a chamber 10 surrounding the engine and thence through the cored pas` y vsage 11 in the detachable head from whence it f. passes through a tube 12 inserted throughthe water jacket or chamber lOof the engine and lying horizontallyk above it throughout `its I,
connection 13 to a pump or impeller 14 driven through ybevel gearing y15 from a friction Y Vwheel or the like driven `from thecrank shaft The tractor comprises oneor a pair of steer ing wheels 1 and a pair of driving wheels 2p.

Where Areference has been madev to or heavy oil engine, this is regarded as meaning an engine normally running with acompression high enough to ignite .the fuel as distinct from ahot bulb or surface ignition enc' ine. Y
I declare that what Il claim is A tractor comprising a frame-work including as integral parts thereof the cylinder Diesel of a heavy loilengin'e, driving and.v steering Y the engine, a radiator mounted' on said water "wheels supporting said frame, a detachable head for the cylinder of said engine having Y" water passages therein, a water jacket for jacket to the rear ofand independent of said detachable head, a water circulation'pipe disposed through said 4 water jacket, a circulating water pump, apipe connection from said pump to said circulation pipe and apipe connectijon from said pump to said radiator.
Y In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name this 27th day of November 1930.
