, This invention relates to a cooling system v for an internal combustion engine and has to vdo particularly with the cooling system of an internal combustion engine of an automotive vehicle.
It is'an object of the invention to provide an improved circulating system for the cooling medium or" an internal combustion engine. More specifically, it is an object of the invention to provide a cooling system which will provide a more even distribution of heat in theregion of the cylinder heads.
lOther objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the coursel of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and appended claims.

` Figure 2 is a front view with parts broken away. l j Referring to the drawing, I have illustrated in V,Figure 1 a conventional internal combustion engine including. a. cylinder block 10, waterv cover 12 and radiator 14. A water pump 16 is-provided on the side of the engineand is driven inthe usual manner from the crankshaft and is connected by means of an inlet pipe 18 with' thev lower part of the radiator andl byV an outlet pipe 2O with the water'cover'12. A pipe 22 extending fromy the lower part of thewater jacket of the cylinder block to the upper ,part of the radiator completes the circuit. Extendingl between the top of the water cover 12 and the top of the radiator 1 4fis a small pipe 24. This pipe is j necessary to eliminate 4the possibility of the formation -of an air pocket in the top of the water cover 12 and may be quite small, a threeeeighths copper pipe being found to give good results. This pipe is so small that itsk yinterference with the normal flow of cooling liquid is negligible. Y
Thestructure described provides a more even distribution of heat in the cylinder block and thereby eliminates uneven expansion.
vThis type of cooling system isfparticularlyy adapted for use with a sleeve valve engine, as illustrated, since this type of engine presents diiiiculties in the way of cooling. Forcing the water in at the top cools the junk heads and spark plugs efficiently and renders feasible a higher compression without any detrimental eii'ects.
I claim:
1. VIn a circulatory cooling system for inter-nal combustion engines for motor vehicles and the like, a main circuit including a heat radiating unit having an inlet and an outlet,
`a jacketedv engine cylinder head connected with the outlet of the heat radiating unit, a j acketed engine cylinder block connected with the inlet of the heat radiating unit, and an auxiliary circuit comprising a by-pass around the jacketed head and block and connecting the jacketed head and the inlet of the heat radiating unit.
2. The structure of claim 1 and apump for forcing cooling medium thru both the main circuit and the auxiliary circuit.

In a circulating cooling system for internal combustion engines for motorvehicles and .the like, av closed circuit for cooling medium including a radiator having an inlet and an outlet, a jacketed engine cylinder block having an outlet connected with the radiatory inlet, and a jacketed engine cylinder head having an inlet connected with the radiator outlet.
4f. In combination a heat radiating unit having an inlet and outlet, a water jacketed engine comprising a cylinder blockv and a removable head affording a combustion chamjacket and the inlet to the radiating unit, and
